WTF!! - The Official Redneck 4 Post Car Lift

Driving home this morning on one of the "back roads" and saw an old VW which caught my attention. I do believe this is a rather unique 4 post lift if cinder blocks and landscape timbers qualify as a lift? Perhaps 2 landscape timbers make it a 2 post lift?

No idea how he got it up there other than getting a couple of his bubba buddies to just lift it. More American ingenuity at work??

Couldn't resist this one also:

Notice the 4x4s are sagging a tad.

Lets say you wanted to do something like this for real - skipping the cinder block. Just having the car up 2 feet in the air... would a 6x6 do it for a 1800lb car?

Maybe it is way of keeping someone from stealing that valuable antique automobile.

a 4x4 is surprisingly strong.

just from the pics, the real danger is from the entire thing overturning. doesnt look that stable. crazy. the signage really classes the place up.

Is it a 4x4 or a landscaping timber? The one in front looks rounded off.

Those are just regular old softwood edging timbers. I am no expert but I would be more scared of the cinders collapsing inward than the wood breaking. Looks like we're dealing with "rat rod kulture" over there. He probably feels real "badass" like Jesse James and has all sorts of creative "tat's."

Although I agree it's stupid, that looks like a bare shell, no pan, engine, tranny, front end, glass, etc.
It only weighs at most about 300 pounds, two big guys can lift it up on there. I've had a shell many times up on a set of good sawhorses.

A complete SB dry weight is only just over 1800lbs.

That's what it means to have a car up on blocks.

When I was about 18, I got invovled in helping some redneck boys putting a clutch in their 396 ss Nova. They lived on a bunch of property in a trailer. I asked them If I needed to bring a jack, or stands, and the one brother told me ," no we have it covered". They parked the car next to the trailer, and dug the ground out from under the car between the wheels on one side. I laughed my butt off when I got there, but it did work, and looked fairly safe.

Seen this done a few times with International Harvesters, cinder blocks, lumber, roll the frame out from under the car.

I inspected a couple of european motorcoaches in a similar fashion. I think they were all Lags, not that that matters. The carrier didn't have a lift or pit, but he did have a shallow ditch that went underground at the edge of the property (ditch into a culvert pipe). They drove the coaches over the top of the dry ditch, and I crawled underneath to do the inspections.

Weird, but quite safe.

The treated stuff seems to work great. Soft pine is cheaper.

At first it looked a little sketchy being up that high but then I saw the garbage can pushed up against the cinder blocks to help keep it stable and I was relieved.
