Sounds like my homeowner's association......did I mention that I'm desperate to move to the country?

Club = fun, right? If you're not having fun, sounds like you made the right choice. Big fish small pond often does not make for good leaders.

Close to the same thing on my end. A local long time charity that I have worked with for almost 10 years was being taken over by "do-gooders" and run into the ground while supporting their private causes, which were not what we should have been supporting.

We provide scholarships for people getting into business aviation every year and its not just $100 or so. This past year its been sorta taken over by someone wanting to take the entire amount (close to $30k) that we donate out in one year as an endowment to his college, and of course he gets the feather in his cap and free football tickets and so on for bringing in this money.

Several of us saw this happening and were not amused, so behind the scenes I pulled several other former board of directors members together and we had a b-fast "how do we save the group" session. The other two are current BOD members (I have been off of the board for 3-4 years now) and we have just taken control of the one committee again and handed out the scholarship funds to individual students and not one big college, which really pissed the one gent off but frankly we do not care.

BTW, a "Pelican member" was one of the lucky scholarship winners who is getting his aircraft mechanics training in this area. You can make a difference and I feel that its better to help close to home if possible!
