I read about this guy some time ago. Whatever happened to him?

HardDrive 09-12-2011 05:12 PM

The guys sounds like a nut case to me.

LWJ 09-12-2011 06:16 PM

Not to dis the Marine but I think Hard Drive might be right. I applaud his efforts, but he does seem "different."

Wayne - Mods - if ever there was a case for a Pelican "Thank You" or an award of (Porsche) merit, this would be the time. I would be happy to pitch in and do something for this P-Car owner.

So long as it's air cooled.... just kiddin'

Anyone want to join me?

The only thing I think was off was that he had time to get the haircut, get his fatigues and gear, stop for a burger, but he had to drive at 120 MPH. He maybe picked up 10 minutes.

Of course the roads into NYC at that time were vacant, but still.

Maybe picked up 10 minutes? He'd have to do 120 the whole way from Stamford to Pelham Manor.

There are very few roads in that area that would not tear out your suspension at those speeds.

I think it's a cool story but something about the guy is a bit off.

The fatigues make sense.

I can buy the haircut to help sell what he was trying to portray himself as.

A burger, yeah makes sense. A Marine would know to eat when he can cause he won't know when the next meal is coming. Stopped at his church? Odd choice given the sense of urgency.

Simply going in and starting to look without "checking in" feels a bit Lone Rangerish/Knight in shining armorish to me.

Agreed on all counts. How far is that anyway? At 120 he would pick up 10 minutes in 20 miles according to how I figure it, but I not much a t math. Still, unless he was in church for only a minute or so, moot point.

But, the guy found someone. That's the story, not how he did it.

About 20 miles from Stamford to Pelham. Another 20 miles from Pelham to The Battery.

Pelham is not on Manhattan Island, it's The Bronx. Pelham is about as far down as your going to get without encountering congestion.

From Pelham you'd hit the Bruckner/Major Deegan to Willis Ave bridge then down the East side of Manhattan Island on the Harlem River/FDR.
