anyone exercise with a kettlebell?

i bought one on a whim. it was at a discount store..$13.

doing the kettlebell swing, i feel just a little bit less gay than doing that shakeweight. but i am amazed at the workout you get swinging that thing!! it took a bit to get the proper form down (youtube), but today i am walking around like i did full blown squats.

i now ride my bike, come home..hang the bike up, and do 4 1-minute sets of that kettlebell. i can barely make it on the last set. i am weak.

tonight, i am going to do one set of up/downs..(that's was what we called them in school)

any other kettleball moves?

i am trying to get into shape for an upcoming AZ hunt. i need to do hill sprints, i guess.

I've never tried the kettlebells, but I know and have played golf with Missy Beaver (yes, that's her real name). She's the "Queen of the Kettlebell", been training celebs and athletes for years. She has a DVD available, she's in great shape (as you can see) and can drive a golf ball as far as a lot of the guys.......

Old school but VERY effective. I like it.

I'm looking at my Russian Kettlebell as I type this. Get the stuff from Pavel, Comrade.
" If you don't know how I will teach you. If you don't want to I will make you".
Will start the swing again tomorrow.

"One set of up-/downs"

Whoa, slow down big guy. Maybe start with 1/2 a set so you don't get burned out . . .

I've used them, it is a good core workout, need proper form to avoid hurting your back. Can use a heavier dumbbell the same way, hold one plate with both hands.

My trainer, who showed me the kettlebells, committed suicide over the weekend. I'm sad and shocked.

I've been doing Crossfit for a little while now, which incorporates a lot of Kettlebell excercises. Other KB excercises that I can think of off the top of my head are KB Cleans, KB Snatches and Turkish Get Ups. Youtube is a good place to learn the proper movements and form for any of these. As with most excercises, especially when first learning the movements, go slowly, and focus on doing the movements correctly.

+1 here with crossfit!

Can also go to crossfit.com and learn the exercises...maybe some others. Who knows, you might want to try it.

If you have a sturdy place to hang them, you might try rings, like the cheapies below

Gymnastic & Fitness Rings

At worst, you can re-hang them over your bed.

Checkout dragondoor dot com and read until your eyes bleed about kettle bells. I love them. Try the clean then hold it in the catch position and do a squat down and up then press the kb over your head. Repeat on both sides this will kick your azz.

Hey, whaddyall think about a "getting fit" thread, with starting descriptions, goals, progress reports, etc? Interest enough? Winter is coming, some of us (!) are going to melt into a puddle of lard without some group support . . . Pictures optional, except for the ladies, just kidding?
