Mmmm, braunschweiger! Eaten it since was a kid - also called goose liver (dunno why). Didn't know what pate was back then. Today, braunschweiger/liverwurst seems to me kinda like 'poor man's pate'. Maybe that's why the 'goose liver' misnomer. Mmmm, good stuff!

What kind of German would I be if I did not? I have loved the stuff since I was a little kid. I have this customer who makes his own. Once a year , he brings in a nice sized loaf of it. It is simply fantastic, and I eat it breakfast lunch and dinner until it is gone.
The little lady, can't stand even the smell of it, and does not like it in her fridge. She attempted to throw some of it out once, we had words.

Grew up with it (Dutch). I lucked out that my wife is from German decent and also loves it. Our kids now also love it spread over rye toast.

What's weird is that I hate liver with a passion. My mom used to try and sneak it passed me as chicken fried steak but I could never stomach it. I even hate the occasional chicken liver that you get with a order of fried gizzards. I remember one day the mess hall gave us the option of liver with onions or chitlins. I ate the chitlins. I grew up eating Braunschweiger and head cheese, we always had bologna, ham and PBJ's but when we had Braunschweiger or head cheese, they were always "special" sandwiches. I don't know why I love Braunschweiger so much yet hate all other liver. I think it might be because the Braunschweiger doesn't have that strong liver after taste...

Ya, Ich liebe Braunsweiger und Head Cheese und Blood tongue.

Mom used to make Liver, bacon and onions every once in awhile...pass the Ketchup please...but now I don't mind it every once in a great while.

Maybe it's liver's texture you don't like? Braunschweiger is typically about 1/3 liver ground up with the other ingredients, much different texture to my palate.

I like them both, don't think I've ever thought about liver when eating liverwurst or braunschweiger though.

I'd eat more than I do but it's pretty high fat and, I think, not all that healthy.

YUMMY!!!

Loved since my grandfather had me try it as a kid. Sadly, haven't had it in years!

Never tried it, but it sounds interesting. Do you eat it hot or cold?

Definately not health food. Mom used to spread a little mircle whip on a saltine with mine, mmm good with a coke to wash it down. Never tried the other accoutrements. Will have to get a sleeve of 'shweiger and saltines for the weekend.
