I used to love seeing my ex wife work on her FJ Cruiser. I agree with Porsche4life. Goes for guitars, too.:confused:

Dude, see some of the chicks on MLP? There's one that's beyond hot.

tweezers74 09-17-2011 12:02 AM

I used to play the guitar too. Was the only girl in a class of guys with long hair that wanted to play heavy metal. Once they found out the quiet chick in the front row kicked butt, they asked to play with me. Lol!

Geez, reading through this thread again, I realize that there men out there that appreciate gals like me. And to some of your points, I actually think some guys question me because I am quite girly girl...from first impressions and don't look like the type of girl that would mind getting her hands dirty. Maybe that's why I get so much push back. I guess I shouldn't be surprised and that it doesn't stop me anymore. I think it kind of motivates me to do it because it pisses me off. From playing guitar, getting into golf (before the Tiger movement), riding motorcycles, surfing, snowboarding, getting my MBA, I was pretty much surrounded by some men that weren't always convinced a "prissy" girl like me could hang. But I guess I should appreciate both types of men. One motivates me by pissing me off and I gloat by proving them wrong. The other type are nice and I learn a lot from them.

And to tell you honestly, never considered myself a "tomboy" until I just listed all the "boy" stuff I liked. Huh. Guess I am one. :)

You free tomorrow night?

Truth be told most guys are scared of a woman who can do/likes to do/ and excels at "guy stuff"
One of the coolest things about my daughter is her ability to work on cars. It isn't too detailed but she does all the stuff I have issues getting my hand into.

Bingo! That was my point I was trying to get to on my rant earlier. I think guys SAY they want a girl like that but when they find one, they get intimidated by her. And if she's better? Forget about it! But you know? I have played the dumb girl card and sat on the sidelines pretending I was scared to break a nail and I was miserable. I figure I am much happier doing what I want in the long run. Encourage your daughter to never "sit on the sidelines"!

And slodave, you asking me out? To do what? Play guitar? Fix cars? Play golf? Snowboard? Ride some motorcycles (I get my own)? Camp? Surf? Hike? I am up for all of the above!!! :) Lol!

They are out there but the trades are still mainly men

That was me in High School. I stocked up on all the classes needed for college then took our high school Electrician, plumbing, auto mechanics and masonry classes. It was great. I think more people should take this classes.

I think this article just adds to the perception that there are girls out there like us.:D

All of my European friends, and some US, say I need to find someone over there. Case in point, proven.

Hilarious! And slodave, it would be kind of hard to do something tonight considering you are in CA, although it is my second home. At least I would know I liked the car you drove. LOL! Wasn't it nice to know you have all these guys to back you up?

Well, just as gals like me are rare, guys like you are rare. Believe me, dudes don't deal well with their gal kicking their butt at something they thought they were good at. Like I said before, it is all good when you are just friends. I'm just the rocking girl who can hang but as soon as you start dating one, story changes. Men like independent women when they aren't theirs. Just saying that is what I've experienced. Maybe it's like masraum said, I have to find the right guy who is OK with it. Hard to find.

I would love to have a woman to share my interest in "guy stuff" with. I'm not scared of men who share my interests, why should I be scared of a woman who does??

Yep, nothing wrong with a partner who shares the same interest, would make track events more fun...
