I googled them, 330 hp or so.

I met up with a late M Coupe today at lunch; he had One Lap stickers on it and monster tires. It went around an on-ramp like a rocket on rails...insanely fast. I ran out of 225 S03 goodness way too early. From there though we both had tons of fun on the highway. My car was surprisingly as quick even though down 100 hp. All in weight loss I guess. I definitely need to go to 265/225s this spring.

It was outrageous fun. We took turns smiling and waving, and I got a “I am not worthy” bow. LOL! Seemed like a really nice guy. Just really rare to meet another car guy here in the Boston area, best example was a 997 owner trying to figure out what my 73 was. He had no idea. nice guy though.

Fun car. I had the previous generation which was a complete frankenstein. Had the E46 330hp motor, an E36 front end, E30 rear end and a mess of odd ball electrical nonesense. My father had the Z4 M roadster which was a much nicer car. I'd totally pick up an '08 coupe. Tons of fun, rare to see another on the road and really nice looking.

Cool. Do you have any experience with 69-89 911s as well?

How do you find the cornering/handling? Do you track it?

I drove one - absolutely stunning. They damn near had to pry my lust-sweaty fingers from the steering wheel.

Great brakes and handling, lovely steering and full-throttle onto a freeway on-ramp feels like Wyle E. Coyote strapped to an ACME rocket - LITE THAT FUSE BABY!

Seriously. Drive one. They're all that and can haul a bunch of groceries. Frankly, they are much quicker in stock form than a 69-89 911 at least for street driving (I've never driven one on the track).

I joined Pelican when I was running 3 Porsches - a 1983 911SC, 1983 944, and 1983 928S; the 911SC was the first I owned. So, yeah, a bit.

I've only tracked mine a couple of times, but the M Coupe is much more in its element on the track than the road, where its suspension isn't as supple and forgiving as the rival Cayman S on bad surfaces. It's my favorite car of all I've owned (only the 2nd car I've ever bought new off the showroom floor), and my plan is to drive it until I need a walker, as one won't fit in the hatch.

Anybody interested in a M Roadster? I know a guy in the bay area who is thinking of selling his.

I haven't driven a very high performance modern car in ages. Thing is I don't want to waste some salesman's time or get him excited. And I would want to drive one like I do my car, with a little care of course. So it's not likely I'll have the chance soon. I was simply blown away at how this car went around the on ramp. Yes, my tires were cold, and he had steamrollers in the back, certainly bigger than stock, but I was just sliding through the ramp watching him go. It was exhilarating and stunning. Now, on the highway and getting off a long long sweeper, I could keep up with him, but my car is completely gutted, can't weigh more the 2100 lbs, if that, and I have maybe up to 240hp according to Steve Wong.

It was just so fun, I can't wait to get back to the track this spring.

Good plan. Is there any comparison at all between your Coupe and SC? I'm guessing there really isn't.

Not really - generations newer, lots more power, different layout. I've always felt some of my affection for the Z4MC started with the 944, what with the weight distribution, layout, practical hatch; if it didn't exist I'd likely be driving a 968 coupe right now.

The only similarity to the older 911s is that the M Coupes, both Z3 and Z4, remain pretty analog is a digital age - I agree with those enthusiasts that feel they're the purest M-division cars, intended for motorsport.

Agreed. That's why I took full advantage of the BMW Susan Korman Breast Cancer Drive. I took a day off work and drove EVERY car except the 6 series convertible. I needed an appointment for that one and it was booked up solid. For every mile driven (they give you a route) they donated one dollar to the Susan Korman foundation.

I drove 4, 6 and 8 cylinder cars. I hated one of the I-drive sedans so greatly that I turned around and brought it back to the dealership. The rest of the cars were simply great. It was, in every way and AWESOME day. Especially in the Z4!

I think BMW stopped that program. Pity. It was a great program and really show cased their product.

I had a regular Z4 Coupe 3.0, and it was a blast. That car felt great and handled great, and I felt like it had plenty of power.

I can't even imagine what the M version would be like.
