inexpensive digital video camera?
anyone use one of those inexpensive digital video cams like the flip? Anyone have a recommendation? Looking for something to video the kids' soccer games.

The flip is a very good option.
I have one of the Sanyo pistol grip looking cameras, and it shoots very good video as well. |
Good timing in the question. I told my wife this weekend we need to look at digital video cameras. Our current camera is one of those small tape models which we never digitize. Went to wallyworld to get new tapes and they were almost non-existent.

I've got a flip and use it quite a bit. It's great for taking high quality (HD) videos but it doesn't have very good zoom (duh). This weekend I'm going to try mine at number 1's soccer game. If you want I will share with you the results.

Another vote for the flip, for its ease of use and size. The video and audio quality is quite good, for what the camera is, but definitely limited. Whatever you buy, learn from my mistake and make sure the video format is something generic - avi, mpg, mov, m4v, whatever it is, make sure your video editor of choice will read it. We bought a JVC that uses a proprietary .mod format, and we have to render each video clip into an avi or mpg in order to edit it - HUGE pain in the butt.

This is my friend's company. I have not used the product, but for recording a game, I have to believe it is hard to beat.
