How long to settle an estate?

When my parents passed on it took a little over a year to settle up.
My aunt ( my mothers sister) and uncle have both gone round the bend and had no children of their own so after executing the will the remainder of their estate goes to
myself and my three siblings.
Today (Sept. 25) makes three years since her passing. This is not going to be a large inheritance by any means, but if the lawyer (hers) keeps dragging his feet i wonder
if there will be anything left.
My sister is the executrix so i have had no dealings with the lawyer.
To my knowledge no one is contesting anything.
Is this taking too long or what?

From what I have seen, unless there are complications, it should not take more than a year.

When my mother passed her estate was settled within 6 months, but there were a lot less people involved

A year. Unless there are complications, or lawyers involved, or you have to sell assets (like a house).

Aside from selling things off, if they have a living trust, it takes @ 4-6 weeks.

This should be a notice to everyone. Start a private trust and put your goods in it, then when someone passes, there is no interruption, the second trustee just takes over and there is no cost, delay or games being played.

IMHO the lawyer is playing games and dragging their feet to milk the estate. My Fathers took several months and thats it.

The house (Cape Cod,Ma.) was sold 2 1/2 years ago.
There is land here in Vermont that was in my mother and aunts names.
My sister called about 5 weeks ago and informed me that the lawyer in Ma. can't do the VT. deal
(apparently took him that long to figure that out?) so i've got our lawyer working on that.
