BMW 3 Series Sport Wagon?

Time to trade in my wife's Lexus GX after 10 years and 110k miles. She is more tired of it and the 12 mpg in the city than any other issues. Been a great car, never had a problem with it.

She would like a crossover, and we've looked around a bit at different cars including the Toyota Venza, Infinity EX, Lexus CT and Lexus RX, but she really likes the BMW 3 series, but prefers something with a little extra cargo room.

Anyone ever had a BMW sport wagon? Just curious as to opinions. The local dealer does not get them very often and a nationwide search to find the nearest one reported Colorado, so looking at one before ordering probably is not possible.

Additionally, seems there are quite a few BMW owners here, how about the brand in general? Never owned one before.

I have a 2000 with a sport package. I love it, and would buy another in a heartbeat. The only regret I have with mine is not having a manual transmission. My only other advise is that the Sport package is a must, if nothing else the seats are really supportive compared to the standard version.

We drove the Lexus CT200h. Awesome car, great handling and fuel economy, but short on power and was just too small. This car will be our family car for the four of us.

I may be looking for a commuter car early next year and it would be my #1 choice. 40/45 highway/ city is hard to beat, especially since the price loaded out was only $31k.

My wife's on her second 3 series and says she won't drive anything but BMW. Although she keeps pointing out Panamera's but they're out of our price range.

The sedan trunk is pretty small so the wagon makes sense.

I know this is a much older model than you're looking at, but 3 series wagons are very good cars - they do everything very well. I've had mine for 6 years now - it's my daily summer driver.
The newer wagons from BMW are great cars ... I'd prefer one over an X3 or x5. I'd get one myself if I didn't have this one and could afford something newer.

Had an old 1987 318i wagon, back in the day, loved that car.
Currently have a 2007 328xi sportwagon, with the all wheel drive. Absolutely love it, plenty fast enough, and drove it in a blizzard through the Donner Pass, performed flawlessly in the snow, has great traction.
Use it as a dog hauler, put the seats down, two German Sheperds, no problem, they have to duck a bit, as the rear roof line is a little low.
I would buy another one, as I have not been disappointed with it yet.

The X3 with the 335tt motor is the best choice for small/medium sized wagon that's fun to drive in the BMW line. For some reason they do not give USA customers any performance in the conventional wagon layout. In Europe you can get the 3-series wagon w/ the 335d motor which has 425 ft./lbs. of torque, (@1700 rpm), and close to 40mpg highway.

Why do you need a wagon?

BMW 3 Sportwagen is a good choice, if you need a wagon

Also consider:

Cadillac CTS Wagon, esp the 556 horsepower CTS-V Wagon
Audi A3 or A4 Wagons

Seriously, take a look at the CTS..... a tremendous car
