Porsche/Man Cave......
Started construction on a work shop yesterday. Got some fill dirt brought in and the slab poured. The building will be 24'w x 28'l with a 12' wide carport on one end. It will be an all steel building w/insulation in the walls and ceiling. The roof will have a 6:12 pitch. The ceiling over the carport will be solid metal with the area between the carport ceiling and the roof used for a storage area. One 3' door with a 16' wide roll up door. Here is a picture of the slab being poured.
![]() The building will be shaded until about noon and will be back in the shade by about 3:30 or 4:00 in the afternoon. Construction of the building won't start for a couple of weeks as the contractor has some other work scheduled first. Should be in the shop by the end of the month. Yea!

Subscribing. My garage is still unbearably hot at 10pm.

What it will look like......
I took a picture of the shop site and imported it into Excel. Used the Excel drawing tools to add the shop building in perspective.....

Drawing on a picture......
Use the "insert from a picture" function to put the picture in an open excel worksheet. Then, using the drawing functions, line, rectangle, basic shapes, etc., make the drawing. To get the perspective effect, draw some base lines to an imaginary vanishing point to the left and right. The hardest/most time consuming part is filling in the colors. I used lots of small triangles and other shapes to do so. Once the drawing is created and printed, I scanned it back into a JPG. Just love technology! Here is another drawing from a different perspective.

Where am I ?
I live in south, south Georgia about 50 miles north of Tallahassee, Florida. If you draw a line between Albany, Ga. and Valdosta, Ga. and go about half way, that's the place!

Lift?
Since I already have two good floor jacks, an ATV jack and 6 jack stands I probably won't be buying a lift soon. I will be adding an engine stand, engine lift, welder and a parts washer tank. First project after moving in will be to rebuild the engine in my SC coupe.

![]() I would definatly recommend the bench type engine mount (off the wall in my case). 360 degrees rotation with no side restriction;

A lifting experience..........
A lift is entirely feasable. The building will have no ceiling other than the roof which will vary from 10 feet high at the wall to 16 feet high at the peak. No interior poles, etc, just one big open room! The drive thru door will be 16 feet wide by 8 feet high and is a roll up type that goes up into a large drum just over the door opening. Other than the roll up door, there will only be one other opening, a 3 foot wide door under the carport. Work benches will go down each end and the area over the carport will be built so that I can use it for storage. Lighting will be via 6 flourescent fixtures that are 6 feet long. There will be two 240 volt outlets, one for a welder and the other for a small heat pump for heat and air. The 120 outlets will run about 4 feet off the floor so that they will be above the work benches (no hunting and reaching under "stuff" to plug something in!). The carport can be used for washing/waxing out of the sun and/or a parking space for my Ford Excursion. Mainly, I will be moving from a shop that is about 8 feet x 8 feet into one that is 24 feet x 28 feet!

My in-laws managed a plantation for the Mellon family (near Newton, GA) for a long time so the landscape looked very familiar.

Steel going up............
on Wednesday the 27th! Should be completed by early the next week, probably Tuesday at the latest, maybe as early as Saturday! Once the building is completed and the floor cleaned, the next order of business will be to seal the floor. Probably not going to put the sparkly chips in the paint. It is too much trouble finding a small nut or bolt even on a plain floor! Once the floor is done, it will be time for paneling, building work benches and wiring. More pictures once something happens!

What about ventilation? Wind turbins on the roof or something? You might consider another 240V outlet for a compressor and running a pipe system with outlets. If the winters are cold (never been in that part of the country), you might want to insulate it. Doesn't cost much. I thought my 25x32 garage would be big enough. Didn't happen.
