Amazon Fire
Amazon announced it yesterday, who is ordering one?
Amazon Just Won The Android Tablet Wars With The $199 Kindle Fire | TechCrunch It really looks good to me, but I would want the 3g capability of the higher $ tablets... I'd give $299 for a 3G fire in a heartbeat... |
that screen size 7" is too small for me to be interested in. less than double the size of the screen on my smart phone.
ipads have a 9+" screen and the xoom is 10+" so if the Fire gets them to lower their prices then i might get whatever verizon will have on their list of compatable droid tablets. |
I'm in for one.
I'm an oddball and don't like the iPad because it is too big to be easily portable (for me at least) and I don't need the larger screen size. I have the current Kindle and find it to be a really good size. The Fire is a good compromise at a great price. 3g would be nice, although I don't know how Amazon could continue the current 3g support (free almost anywhere in the world) without charges on an effective browsing device. |
The problem is it loses the Kindle's best feature in readability. I have both Kindle and iPad and prefer reading on the kindle. The e-ink screen is great.
Also, the iPad's apps will keep it on top of the market for the foreseeable future. |
I read on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it looks fine, no eyestrain. I can adjust the colors and brightness and all that, I find that a slightly dimmer than normal black text on sepia background is pretty easy on the eyes. Although I agree that for just reading the e-ink is even better.
I don't anyone wants or needs iPads to go away. Someday, just like the current smartphone and PC markets, Apple will own a few percent at the profitable end of the market and everyone is happy. I'm looking forward to some hands-on time with the Sony S2, I think a folding screen if implemented well can be the best of all worlds, fits in a pocket yet magazine size screen. My biggest problem with the Amazon Fire is the unfortunate name. http://thefreeonline.files.wordpress...re_amazon1.jpg |
It seems to be about the size of a mass-market paperback book, which I doubt is a coincidence.
That seems like a convenient size to me - maybe small enough to stuff in a jacket pocket. My droid is a little small to read on, and ipads are too large to be convenient. Plus I dislike the ipad's housing - too round and slippery IMO. |

The 7" is about 3 times the size of my old HTC HD2. Most people I've shown the Galaxy prefer the slightly smaller size. |

I'll stick with my iPad 1 for the time being. Between it and my wife's mini notebook, I'm covered.

The 7" feels a lot better
That's what she said. The 7" is about 3 times the size of my :( I just bought an HP TouchPad at the employee fire sale yesterday. $99 |
