3GS vs iP 4
non contract 3GS 32GB is available for $199. Would this be a good entry level iPhone? My wife is looking to try one out.
I figure get this one, then if she really likes it, I'll get her the iP5 when it comes out. Is this a good strategy? |
usually a 2 year waiting period or a hefty charge to break that
be sure the contract has an upgrade provision |
I still like my 3GS. It does most everything the 4 does, I'm not in any hurry to upgrade.
|
I think the main difference between the 3 and the 4 is face time. Screen brightNess and battery life may also be better. If any of those are important to you, check out closer.
|
The 4 is also faster with a nicer screen.
I would just wait a few weeks and get the 5. She will love the iPhone. Or, you could pick up a used 3GS for very cheap once the 5 is released. Lots of folks that kept the 3GS and didn't go with the 4 are going to upgrade. |
I prefer the form factor of the 3GS (in fact I took back my android phone and am back on my original 3G) over the iP4. If you can believe the rumors the 5 will go back to that sleeker shape.
My 3G frankly is just on the edge of usability speed-wise, and it will not run the current iOS4 worth a damn and iOS5 won't even support the 3G (but will support the 3GS - whether it runs it fast enough remains to be seen). |
For $199, I went for it. Again, if she likes it, I'll get her the next gen when it comes out in a few months.

Ip5 is rumored to be released next week. In consumer hands by november...
|
The day the iPhone 5 becomes available is the day I switch to Verizon. I'll be fine with a reduced-price iPhone 4. Wifey wants the 5. Hate AT&T. Gawd, I can't wait to leave them.
|
I almost chucked my 3GS into the ocean, my 4 has not caused me any problems yet... :)
