My son has a Tippman 98 and I have a Tippman carbine and both are excellent, accurate and trouble-free. Of course we have after market barrels and doodads on both of them. Tippman's are easy to clean, easy to get parts for and they're reliable. Most of the paintball places near us rent them out...

Chris, I think maybe I'll invest in a large CO2 tank or nitrogen that can double as a race trailer air supply. We can refill the canisters in the barn!

This is an excellent idea. We were always going to, but just never got around to it.

Went to Dick's Sporting Goods today and gave the economy my personal boost...

Bought a couple of the 98C ACT packages, a Sypder Agressor package and got a Tippman A5 that was on display for 50% off. I tried all three types just now and they all work just fine. Accuracy (out of the box) could use some improvement with all three. The problem will be keeping the boys pressured up and supplied with paint balls....good thing I have plenty of work on the farm for them to do to earn the CO2 and paintballs.

I figured I'd give the Spyder a try since it was $50 less than the 98C kit. The manager at the store hooked me up and let me use all available discounts and price matching, gave me free fills on the CO2. I probably saved $200...but spent plenty. I'll just wrap the paint ball stuff up and give it back to them at Christmas! :)

Will post results of this weekend's paint ball war...

ETA: The Tippman US Army Carver is not availabl ein stores. The manager searched all the stores (even in Texas) and they don't carrry it in stores. And they can't ship them in! So getting one in Illinois seems to be a PITA...don't know why.

Yeah...gonna have to get a big tank to save me trips to the store.

Siphon C02? Does that mean it feeds liquid not gas?

Carbon dioxide is used by the food industry, the oil industry, and the chemical industry.[16] It is used in many consumer products that require pressurized gas because it is inexpensive and nonflammable, and because it undergoes a phase transition from gas to liquid at room temperature at an attainable pressure of approximately 60 bar (870 psi, 59 atm), allowing far more carbon dioxide to fit in a given container than otherwise would. Life jackets often contain canisters of pressured carbon dioxide for quick inflation. Aluminum capsules of CO2 are also sold as supplies of compressed gas for airguns, paintball markers, inflating bicycle tires, and for making carbonated water. Rapid vaporization of liquid carbon dioxide is used for blasting in coal mines. High concentrations of carbon dioxide can also be used to kill pests.

More gas per volume if its stored in liquids state. Think propane. I checked the bottles that I bought today and they have a rupture disk/pin set at 3000 psig. The manager at the store said there bottles are about 2000 psig. So not doubt its in liquid phase.....and the bottles are in ounces....would take a large volume to get 20 oz of gaseous CO2.

Teach your kids about only shooting when they know it is going to count, and not going full auto... ;)

I can play a whole game and not burn a hopper full, but still do a lot of damage. Wait for the right moment, bust off a 3rd burst or 2 and run to cover...

And and buy, or make the guys some smoke bombs, that adds some fun to it. :D

What happened to the good ol' days when paint "markers" were called paint "guns", actually looked like guns and we could tweak them to fire at 800 FPS??

Souk, just wodering if your standard CO2 tank from airgas dispenses liquid and is that siphon type or do you have to buy a special bottle?

Obviously my NO2 tank wont work...

MotoSook 10-05-2011 07:39 AM

I pretty sure the local Airgas can provide a siphoning CO2 tank. If you want to use your N2 tank for filling, you'll need a different tank than the one you have for CO2. But if you fill it using a regulator (to prevent over pressuring the bottle) and use a regulator on your gun, you can use your old tank. The pressure rating on your romote tank is probably 3000 psig. They sell air tanks rated for 3000 psig and 4500 psig. It may be less hassel to just buy yourself a HPA (high pressure air) tank and regulator, to use with your large nitrogen bottle. It's a matter of volume with the air (compressed air and nitrogen). So a small tank won't last long.

Or you can chip in when I buy the CO2 tank. It may be cheaper than buying the HPA tank and regulator. I have to buy a tank to get the gas...then when you and Wyatt come out....it's free CO2!
