Agreed. Here's the same money spent differently:

Cabinety + taps: approx. $900
Granite top (Neptuno Bordeaux from Brazil): approx $1100

Costco & Sam's sometimes have furniture vanities for around a grand. Decent value considering it comes with granite top and sink.

Check online.

Iv'e built them..go to an antique/junk store and find a dresser; I've used a secretary before.

You can get a top made for fairly cheap. I made one from walnut that we had from a tree that had to be cut down.

Bear in mind that they area beside & underneath a footed cabinet will be a dustbunny/hairball magnet & it won't move for cleaning because of the hookups.

Tried to fix it.

Can't help you here:

verniers (plural of ver·nier)
Noun: A small movable graduated scale for obtaining fractional parts of subdivisions on a fixed main scale of a barometer, sextant, or other measuring instrument.

Nope. No 2K will build that from scratch.

Comment about dust bunnies, etc.?

Yep.

After you cut the hole for the sink, put two or three coats of polyurethane on the top surface, the edge of the cut, and the bottom of the top piece.

Then just before you drop the sink in, put a nice bead of silicone under the lip so it seals and you shouldn't have a problem with rot.

But if you want to go with the marble top approach, just replace the top piece with marble.

I have a double sink like that made from some repurposed piece of furniture. It's a total POS - I hate the thing. The two sinks take up most of whatever storage space the thing had. I can't wait to get rid of it when I redo the bathroom... the whole house is kind of screwy. It's a midcentury ranch they did a half-assed job changing over to a fake victorian.

Ha. Veneer, smart guy. Although maybe the carpenter used them to build the vanity.

Wow, that is a deeply unattractive piece of furniture. And I use the term loosely, because "furnishing" usually connotes an improvement of one's surroundings in some way

Anyhow, I'd join the others in suggesting you find a carpenter to build you something out of real wood, convert an equally ugly piece of furniture, or accept $2K as the price to pay for a vanity that will suck any existing aesthetic quality out of the rest of your home, like a black hole of good taste.

Cheers,

d.

What that is, I think maybe, is an old dry sink, as they're called. Someone has slapped a new piece of stone on the top, cut a hole in it, and dropped sink and faucets into it. Probably it's worth the money, if you're into that kind of thing. All it takes to convert it back to (almost) original is a new piece of stone. As it happens, we've got a couple of the things around here (though none as fancy as this), one of which used for exactly this purpose.

I found this for only $400/shipped. Nice for nice price. The only thing I wonder is that how common is 8" widespread faucet? Most of faucets I see in Home Depot and Lowes is 4" center. Anyone know?

Do the 8" faucet. It is very common. You will find no 4" high end faucets. Try a company call Huntington Brass. They are local and are pretty damn good stuff for the price. Many of the builders use it in their semi custom spec homes. I use to buy straight from the local sales rep. Save my clients a few bucks. They are not Home depot quality for sure. I think they are as good as New Port Brass. Check it out.
