Family Law
I figure this will get kicked over to PARF eventually, but I thought it best to start here. For those of you who have been divorced, or had their marriage annulled, what was the reason?
I'm seeing this happen to a couple of acquaintances and I'm just puzzled by the decision.

She turned out to be a bit of a lazy whore who spent too much money. The kids take after me, fortunately, even more so as they get older.
When my son got married, his father in law was quite shocked that I had been married to his mother. She looks 10-15 years older than I, rather than 18 months and has more than doubled her weight since we divorced. The years have not been kind to her. It turns out, karma is a bit of a beeyotch. Your poll is a bit poorly formed, to my mind

Again one star???
![]() There are legitimate reasons people split. Yesterday I found out a couple were divorcing. Just out of the blue she announces he wants a divorce. I don't know why, so I'm thinking well, what are some of the more popular reasons. Hence the poll. I figure it would be good to know what other people have gone through. Maybe even a wake-up call on how to keep a good thing going, if applicable.

Interesting as I was just wondering the same thing. Our daughter has friends whose parents are divorced. Individually, they seem great. Makes me wonder why they didn't work as a couple. We don't know them well enough to ask.

Either some of you have been married way to many times, or you had a whole host of reasons not to get married in the first place....

I have to admit I look at some couples and wonder what keeps them together. I appreciate all the replies, even the snarky ones.

We just didn't get along. Add in her child and it was a recipe for disaster. I don't believe there was infidelity on her part but one instance sure looked that way. I became super jealous and it just got worse.
We separated for a few months (2 months after we were married) and then got back together but things went back to the old way. Trust is a huge issue for me and I just couldn't trust her and it drove me crazy. As well, I didn't accept ther daughter into my life as a real step-parent should. Does it sound like it was mostly my fault? I believe it is/was and I'm cool with that. The constant tension and just general negativity was starting to affectmy health. We decided 1 Sunday morning that it wasn't going to work. She helped pack my stuff and we behaved like adults through the entire ordeal. Strange as it was, we never yelled at each other again. the last time I saw her was the day our divorce was final. After the court session we went for coffee, hugged and that was the end. As difficult as those times were for me, I do not regret any decisions I made. I wouldn't have my wonderful wife (of 10 years now) and my kids. I don't know if that helps you but that's my story.

With6 responses there's 66% on the unfaithful choice. That doesn't surprise me, that would be one of the big one's. Still, I'm surprised there are so few divorcees here.

After 13 years, 2 children, 3 houses, several cats & dogs, we were strangers. Then she announced that we were no longer married & she started to act like it. I initiated a 6 month separation (that was a particularly evil time for me - say no more) & then I pulled the plug.
Marriage Number 2 still works very well after 21 years together. If she is not your best friend it will never really work imho. Ian
