ways to meet people to date. (not online)

that online thread got me thinking. at my age, i have several friends looking for relationships. not just sex, but something "more".

i am safely married, but my wife gets all involved with finding everyone mates. i do like watching from the sidelines.

so what is working? volunteering at things seem to be the biggest payoff. habitat for humanity, and Christmas pet adoptions at the SFSPCA. one guy is a bit of a dick, but he pretended he cared, signed up for some volunteer program, met (small world) another friend of mine..and now they have kids. he also taught kickboxing to city kids.

more of my friends started dating handing out free christmas kittens. the SFSPCA has a holiday adoption window at a downtown clothing store. if you are halfway decent at talking it works, 5 friends got holiday sex as a bare minimum.

if i were single i would volunteer or join an exercise group. like "team in training". my sorta hottie co-worker married a FBI agent riding her bike and training for a marathon.

any other ideas? let's get all the pelicans hooked up.

what doenst work? church. none of my christian friends seem to have any luck at church. one of them is smoking hot..too.

I would feel really odd trying to hook up at church. Then if I was thinking nookie and she was thinking marriage, that could be weird because you'd still be going to the same church after...

The shooting range

Single Malt Tastings
Raise The Macallan

Car Shows/Events

And Sci-Fi conventions -

However, if you want to meet girls, that list probably won't work... smile....

There is no bigger turn off than someone trying to play matchmaker. My mom always does it and I hate it. If I were remotely interested in someone, my mom's endorsement of them would kill the deal right away. And that has happened more than once.

When I was a serious runner, the jogging groups were good places to meet people. DC has the best running culture in the US, so you almost have to try to avoid those groups.

I would be wary of volunteering somewhere just for the purpose of meeting girls. I'm not into the bleeding heart types and that's where you'd be likely to meet them. My wife's boss makes her team volunteer AND contribute to her favorite charity. Guess how happy and enthusiastic they are when they're volunteering.

More than a few of my friend's from 35 to 50 have been marrying Indian and Asian women, kind of strange. One of them explained to me that they were easier to approach and were easier to marry, I have no idea what it means but if it works.

I would imagine that the best way to meet a woman that you're going to have a long lasting relationship is to engage heavily in the things that you enjoy doing. In this way, if you meet someone at a "midget-tossing" event, you'll already have something in common ;-)

Or, look for where the Indians and Asians congregate, I hear they like to get hitched.

Through the years, we've listened to single friends complain about not being able to find suitable mates. They say "I don't understand, I go to the bars every weekend, but I can't find anybody worthwhile..."

If you fish in a cesspool, don't be surprised if you're catching turds.

The suggestion of doing what you like to do, whether that is racing cars, hiking, etc., is great. Then you find someoen with a common interest. Also, be open to trying something you've never done before. If a buddy says, 'hey, bunch of us are going rafting this weekend, want to come?' - GO. Maybe it's wine tasting, an art show - just go and be open minded about the adventure! Maybe you meet somebody, maybe you meet someone who knows someone...

If you're younger, go back to school at night. You'll meet young women who want to better themselves. I met my wife 30 years ago when we were working on our MBAs.

All I can do is speak for myself...I met Cindy in a bank. She was a teller there at the time.

LOL! Actually, I just asked...but it didn't hurt that one of the other tellers was a neighbor.

Have some friends who go to www.meetup.com and type in their interests. Always something going on, hike, bike, restaurants, etc. I know you said "..not on line" but this a little different than posting your pic and "winking" or "poking" and going out solo....

Nope..she didn't have a clue until our 3rd date...later she said Sally (neighbor teller) told her I had a "cute little car". Porsches weren't that well known or considered "status" back then. Especially in this little town.

Women treat me like a leper until I'm walking the dog.

Sitting at the outside tables at a cafe it's fairly guaranted an attractive female will come out and say "I just had to come and say hello to the puppy; what's his name". Or they stop and talk and "maybe I'll see you here tomorrow".

I wonder if I should set up a business venture called Rent a Dog with guaranted results.

The only thing more magnetic to women than dogs is babies. Borrow someone's baby and take it for a walk. You'll draw a crowd.
