Fake MSD Serial 682013 (scammed on eBay)

Around 14 months ago I purchased 2 MSD 6AL units on eBay from username xxxxxxxxx He sells FAKE MSD units and is a crook... Serial 682013

As it turns out they are completely fake. I hadn't noticed that the serial numbers on the two MSD units were identical until I set them side by side. I had one of those WTF!!!! moments and did a quick google search and sure enough.... I was scammed. What's worse is I noticed after I installed it into my car but luckily it didn't work...

I immediately contacted PayPal but as the transaction was over 45 days old I can't file a claim.

Just wanted give a heads up to other members. (The last photo is of the genuine internals)

FWIW I Also bought the new MSD 6AL 6425 (locally) with adjustable internal Rev Limiter. I installed and the car started...

I called and they said they know about the fake units but there isn't anyone for me to talk with about it.

Sounds like a legitimate case of mail fraud.

curoswiss 10-04-2011 10:43 AM

No the guy was nice he said it happens all the time and that allot of the newer Fakes actually have 'different' serial numbers so that's no longer the only way to tell. Ya I left followup feedback on eBay and reported to PayPal. PayPal closed the claim as soon as it was opened as its over 45 days. I emailed the seller but i doubt I'll get a response.

u could file a case in the shipper's state's post general. mail fraud across state lines. trademark fraud. etc etc

yes it is if it went USPS then contact the Insp. General's office

also contact the consumer fraud people in your and his state govts. - usually in the Atty. Gen'l office

call the attorneys generals office from his/her home state where the product was shipped from. I was in a similar situation with a purchase on ebay and the State Of Missouri went after him and I was refunded.

curoswiss 10-04-2011 11:54 AM

So I emailed the seller and this is his response. From the bottom up.

curoswiss, I added "MSD" to your search and came up with a lot of hits linking to various forums and all dated around the beginning of September 2011. Are you the one posting in all these places including Facebook?

I'd just like to know if this is a one pony show.

curoswiss 10-04-2011 12:11 PM

Hi Zeke, No I only posted this here.

curoswiss 10-04-2011 12:14 PM

Seller said to send them back... He has yet to offer a full refund. He just offered a full refund upon receiving the fake units back...

Wow I never expected that. Are they made in China or are they a US/Euro part stamped Bosch?

Joe Bob 10-04-2011 12:47 PM

Road and Rape sent a "new" oil pump to a friend....it died on the test bench and killed an RS motor.

nynor 10-04-2011 01:13 PM

why bother making a fake MSD or bosch fuel pump? it sure seems like a lot of trouble and expense.
