Paintball Markers....Tippman 98C or US Army Carver One?

Gonna pick up a few paint ball markers for me and the kids.

Dick's Sporting goods has a kit (marker, face mask, hopper and tank) for $170 for the 98C kit or $130 for the US Army Carver One Kit.

Which one and why?

If not one of these what would you recommend for beginners? I don't need something expensive, just durable for the boys and me (and some friends) to roam around on the farm.

Max has a Tippmann and says that while it is a good piece he is saving for a Spyder - I guess you can mod it so that it is fully auto and the hooper is side mounted making sniping easier - a Tippmann hopper is top mounted which reduces your site.

All the Paintball arenas around here rent Tippmanns. From what I hear they are a good unit. As with naything, clean them after each use and they will last much longer.

Lube you've got em backwards. Tippmans are side mounted spyder is top mounted. I have one of each.

Souk, I'd go for the $130 ones. Spend the extra cash on plenty of CO2 tanks.

Do a google search, but I think the US army guns are made by tippman, but I'm not 100% certain.

The Tippman made US Army Carver One has a side mount hopper, with iron sights. Looks like that's the one. The $ difference can get a 20 oz tank. Winner?

Paintball is a riot...we play all the time.

As they get older/better the level of customization skyrockets.

There is a tremendous amount of buying and selling of paintball gear. I get the hand-me-downs from my son and we sell whatever it was I was using

Enjoy.

use nitrogen, Co2 will freeze up the gun with rapid firing. When my son played (semi-pro) speedball, the Smart Parts Ion gun was the best around as far as price and upgradability.

Dude I've played a lot of paintball and never froze a gun up. For these kids CO2 will be sufficient, and cheaper.

Souk sounds like you've got it. I clean my guns religiously and keep them well oiled and have had very few chops.

Oh and I'm jealous, I haven't gotten to go in about a year and a half.

Best mod for my Tipp98 was a flatline barrel. Puts a back spin on the ball and they carry much further and flatter instead of an lobbed rapid dropping arc ball flightpath. Accuracy increased 100X

The flatline makes them scary good....

A 98 with a flatline and a good amount of power gave me this wound a few years back. Shot was taken from ~75ft away....

While the 98 is the entry level, I know many of my friends stepped it up a notch and went with the Tippman A5

Souk,

You're welcome to borrow my Tipmann 98 Custom ACT for the weekend and see if you like it. I have the remote cannister mount for less weight on the gun, a belt for more rounds.

yours for the price of topping off my CO2 tank when you are done....

Souk, the 98 has a bit better site picture because of the side mounted hopper. Its been a standard for a lo g time and lots of parts and upgrades available for it. Holds up to abuse and less than perfect cleaning well.

Chris, I think maybe I'll invest in a large CO2 tank or nitrogen that can double as a race trailer air supply. We can refill the canisters in the barn!

Good idea. I have a big N02 tank already. Just gotta find out how much pressure the tank holds....
