Road Rage photos ???

Driving home the other day.

Someone was 'parked' in the left (of 2) lanes, beside a couple of cars in the right lane.

I approached from behind in the right lane. Speed limit was 65, they were all doing about 68 - 72, I was closing about 4 - 5 mph above that.

An on-ramp joined in from the right forming a 3rd lane (with no cars in it)....

These people wouldn't move for about a mile(ish) so I used my turn signal, faded over 2 lanes to the empty lane and sped back up to my previous speed.

The person in the far left lane HAMMERED the throttle (you could hear it), sped up behind me (85 to 90mph or so to catch up), never leaving the left lane & I stayed in the right..... I looked in my mirror and it looked like they had their cell phone up either taking my picture or video ???

Is there a web site where something like this might be posted ???

What were they even mad about??? The fact that I didn't let them hold me up longer ???

Some folks figure that they are the speed limit police...

Speeding is a sin. Despite their best efforts to save you, you're going to hell.
P.S. I'll see you there.

They were mad because you were driving a Porsche, and chose not to let them control you. Its happend to me multiple times. I got a dirty look from a Subaru driver just today who I passed on the right because they were going 65.....in a 65.....on I-5.....in the left lane.

I had a similar bizarre reaction once. Some nutball in a 90s Olds fwd whatever was doing some REALLY crazy dangerous stuff to keep me from getting around anyone in any lane. I know that I didn't do anything to them before hand because I came up behind them as they were toodling along. I stayed a bit relaxed and hung back when I realized they were nuts. When I relaxed, they did to. I waited it out about 2-3 miles. Then I saw a large opening not only to get around in front of them but to put some distance between us and took it. They didn't seem to like that, but there wasn't anything that they could do about it and I was long gone.

Some people are just nuts. Don't try to figure out someone that's irrational. You won't.

Doesn't have to be a Porsche. Not long ago, I passed a young girl driving a Prius that was covered in bicycle logos & bumper stickers claiming that bicycles would save the planet. If the look she gave me would have worked, there would have been a burning Mustang on I-5. Yes, she was purposely being a roadblock...

Richard - maybe it was because you look so much like Steve McQueen they wanted your picture?

J/K - seriously - one of my biggest pet peeves is the situation you describe - idjits "parked" in the left lane - I've noticed though sometimes when you get behind the car(s) on the right - at least they will speed up. It's always a test of patience anyway you slice it.

I agree with Freybird...

Sorry i don't understand did you speed up and use the inside merge lane to get ahead?

One thing i see a lot everyday is there is a turn lane backed upbdue to merging traffic and traffic turning right, i'll sit in bumper to bumprr for 5-10 minutes and sure enough people will come flying up the outside lane and try to merge in just before tge turn off, then get pissed because i won't let them in after just waiting my turn fr 10 mnutes. I wonder if tese same people walk into a bank or restaurant and walj up to the front on the line and cut in. I thought not jackasses...

Bob:

We have a road like that - very busy intersection with a merge lane to the right side and when the line of cars is stopped there's always someone who flies by in the right merge lane to get ahead of everyone else. I can't blame him if he get's away with it but if I am there - I always block that lane if possible to prevent it!

You know it wouldn't be so bad if everyone from that lane merged into the through lane at the same spot.
The problem is that people merge from the lane anywhere along its length and you end up with a 3 or 4 : 1 ratio of cars from the merge lane "blending" in.
Are you driving Bow Trail with the LRT constuction? That has been an adventure!

Edit: As for the original post, were you driving the 911? I notice people are way more aggressive with the little red car than they are with the 3/4 ton. Some people are nuts in traffic.

In Northern Va / DC area - we rate as the first or second worst traffic congestion in the US - depending on who does the 'poll' Lot's of pissed off people and crazy 'drivers' ( I use that term loosely) Most people live 20-30 mins from their destination but it takes 2-3 times as long to get there regardless of the time of day.

I have actually seen drivers c*ck-block the passing lane @52mph when there is no one in front of them, pacing the right lane driver so no one can get by.....................................good grief

My $0.42:

I come across the 'parked in the fast lane' scenario often on my commute. My attitude is: "All I want to do is get home, and nothing personal, but I'm driving a little faster then don't take it personally -- just move over!"

Now, there are two things one can do to be on your merry way at your pace:
1. Tailgate: fill the person's mirrors with your car.
2. Pass on the right.

Both of those are technically illegal. However, a cop will more likely ticket you for tailgating vs. passing on the right, IF passing on the right can be done in a safe manner.

I really don't understand why people take it so personally -- if they are doing 60 in a 65 zone, and I want to do 65-70, then can't we all get along? I don't want them to be driving faster than they desire, so why are they so keen on schooling me on the speed limits?!?

True story:
One winter, I was coming home on snowy roads -- there was a lady taking up two lanes on a 4 lane town road. I finally passed her -- but of course, got stuck at the light. She pulled up next to me and started ranted and raving, stating that I'm going to cause an accident AND DEATH. Now, I was certainly driving faster than her, but not fast enough to cause any trouble. Besides, my old Subaru handled snowy conditions very well -- apparently better than her Honda CRV did. I just ignored her raving and went my merry way once the light changed. Whatever...

I had a strange experience on my way to Nashville last week. I-65 in Kentucky is 3 lanes with light traffic. I was in the far left lane passed some goober in the center lane, going a bit faster than him. For the next 10 miles he stayed right in the blind spot to my right no matter what I did. A car came up behind me and I tried to get over to let him by. I sped up to 85 and the clown in the center lane kept his left front wheel right next to my right rear. I slowed down to 50 and he did the same thing. Traffic finally allowed me to scrub the guy off, then he came flying past me making some kind of gesture and maybe laughing. About ten miles later a cop had him pulled over. I don't know what was wrong with that guy.

A real man like Sniper would have gotten out and beaten the crap out of her, especially if she was old.

Now that's what they call karma!

And again - based on your story, you just wanted to be on your way -- nothing personal. But Mr. Goober decided to give you a personal schoolin' ... I guess he gets to go back to (traffic) school!

I hear this a lot. I checked once, and here in Texas at least, passing on the right on a road with multiple lanes going in the same direction is not illegal. I believe the original "no passing on the right" thing came from folks that would pass on the shoulder of the road. That is obviously a bad thing, but if you're on a 6 lane freeway, I'm 99.9% sure that here in Texas, it's not actually illegal to pass someone in a lane on their right side.

I've had a similar experience. Texas is peculiar in that if you are turning right (or left) you don't have to end your turn in the right (or left) most lane. You can turn right and end up in the left lane if you want. But we also have places with 2 right turn lanes. One night a woman in a Ford Expedition was in the right turn lane and I was to her left in the second turn lane. As we turned, she didn't look/think and ran me off of the road to the left (paved median). I didn't honk, I just slowed down and got behind her. I waited a bit and tried to pass her, but when she saw me coming, she blocked my path and drove side-by-side with someone for the mile to the next light. So she ran me off of the road (probably hadn't seen me or thought about the fact that it was a dual turn lane) then had the nuts to block me intentionally. When we got to the next light she rolled her window down and started ranting out the window. I just smiled and waved.

I love stories with a happy ending.

I don't have a karma story, but I have something similar. I was on a "Sunday" drive. I had passed a beat up pickup truck that was outfitted as if it was a hotrod. I pulled up at a light and the truck pulled up next to me. We were in the front row. My V1 was going off and I saw about 4 cars back something that looked like a white crown vic. As we sat at the light, the truck was revving his engine and being a turd. When the light turned green, I sat there for a second as the truck rolled smoke through the intersection. I don't think he got another 100' before the cop was on him. I felt a little bad for him, but not too much.
