Wow, cool. I'm still guessing that the guy probably has some seat time. I just can't imagine that he could manage that on the 'Ring without a fair amount of seat time, especially if he's a suspension engineer. Still, it's not the same as hiring Hans Stuck or Sabine Schmitz to do the driving for you.

I don't need to be accused of being a GM shill, so here's some balance:

My friends tell me the new 2013 Mustang GT500 will be packing an all-aluminum 5.8L supercharged mill that should break the 600 horse mark

They've been testing it at the 'Ring..... here's some proof, and excellent footage

Ha! Denis and I were just talking about this earlier today....

If you wanted a ton of seat time, what better place to get it than working for a manufacturer that can afford hundreds of hours of development time and PAY you for it. These guys get to hone their skills constantly.

John Heinricy did this same job for GM for the Corvette program, and again with the CTS-V.... guess who holds the 'Ring lap times. And several SCCA National titles....

The parking lot looked like a cars and coffee e ent ..i've seriously never seen so many GT3RS' in my life. While there, five cars crashed and two had to be towed off. One, an early M3 was totaled. It's a must do if in the area.. btw, i have all three of my laps on video....they look a little different then the videos above ;)

It is an amazing scene. I did two days on track, one in an M3, one in a Clio Cup. Best track experience ever...

Sent the video to a friend with a GT2...I found his respose interesting. That is, that the Camaro was "too much" for the street...he often mentions that his wife's Boxster S with tip is more fun than the GT2 for street driving. This because on the street, he can only use maybe 10% of the GT2. He really prefers a lower powered and well balanced car for the street.

So, would I want a car capable of being near the top of 'ring lap times? I dunno...my friend's experience says a lot to me.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

If you've got a lower powered, well balanced car, you'd be wishing for more power. (Just ask non-brainwashed Miata owners).

If you've got the top of the line track ready supercars...Well, I don't think I can complain...You'd have enough money to buy an Elise.

Of his fleet of P-cars, he swears his favorite "for fun" is his wife's Boxster S with tiptronic.

My bad. I thought we were talking about the 'ring and production based cars.

Hell, I'm not sure how well any modern production car would do for 24hrs flat out on the ring.

If you're talking about Porsche, sure, they did it back in the day, and they have production based racecars that do it now, but they aren't the only ones.
