Roller skating
My daughter just turned 13 this weekend and wanted a roller skating party. I hadn't been on skates for probably 12 to 15 years. I had a blast! I was the only 50 year old out there doing it that I saw. I forgot how much fun it was. I hope I can walk tomorrow.

You'll most likely notice muscles you haven't noticed for years. Amazing how your muscles can function with no pain when you are younger & haven't done something for a while.

I'm not much of a rollerskater, but I do love rollerblading.

I've roller bladed plenty, but its not quite the same as roller skating. I took my daughter a couple years ago. The smooth surface and harder wheels really make it more like ice skating.

Timely post for me. A group from our church went skating during the summer. I've been begging my 11 year old to go back since, but she really has no interest. Last week I got an e-mail from the local rink that they were open during the day for fall break. Since my daughter's fall break is next week I went by myself while she was in school.
The place was fairly deserted with 12-18 max on the floor at any time. At least half an hour of the 2.5 hours I was there, I had the entire rink to myself. There are definitely some unique muscles in play for skating. It took a couple of days to recover, but I'm looking forward to going back. I asked the manager if they've ever had daytime sessions tartgeted at adults. He said they'd tried it repeatedly, but never had enough turnout for it to work. I'd probably go weekly if they were open during the day. Sure beats the treadmill when it's too hot to run outside here in AZ.

Roller skating is great exercise that uses muscles you don't normally use. I wish there was a place around where I live I could do it.

I used to live on roller skates from the age of 12-16. Had the the Flyer 5's. Still skate now when I can get a chance. Love it.

I always skate with the kids at the bday parties. There is a rink nearby so there has been a rash of skatin bdays over the summer.

I used to love roller skating - esp. in college - they had an adult skate night at the local rink Saturday nights from 10pm till 1am - ahh the memories...
I'm surprised they still have skating rinks around -- most of the ones I knew in North NJ have been closed / renovated for years now... -Z-man.

Surprisingly enough I don't feel sore this morning. I have a couple of blisters on my feet though. The skates I got were brand new. I had to give them my drivers license just to check them out. I guess size 13 skates are not that common.
![]() The place we went to is barely hanging on by a thread. With low attendence and only charging $8 bucks a head for skates and a two hour session they aren't making much money. Rumor has it that developers want to scrape the place to build more high density housing. San Jose has enough of that already. I may have to get my own pair of skates and do this more often. My wife and daughter both have their own. That was part of her birthday present. (my daughters)
