Attending Rennsport Reunion IV...
We where planning to go R/C racing next weekend, but we are thinking to get us some tickets and fly to SF. I was surprised to see the amount of hotels still available in Salinas for decent prices.
Do you guys agree with me that its a good event for an 11 year old petrol head? Any suggestions for lodging? Lots available in Santa Cruz, Watsonville and as mentioned Salinas. |

I wouldn't waste my time with either Salinas or Watsonville unless you are on a "Keep it on the cheap cheap budget." Santa Cruz lodging isn't much better. If you want to spend a bit more and stay at a great place, I would recommend Sea Scape Resort in Aptos. Right on the beach and good dining within and nearby. Aptos is only a 40 to 45 minute drive from Laguna. Palapas is right across the street from Sea Scape. Not the best mexican food in the area but not bad. Manuel's is my favorite hole in the wall and is about a 5 minute drive north of Sea Scape. (reservations recommended) 831-688-4848 The Saturday special after 5pm is Camarones de Diego. Yum!

Sorry, but unless I'm missing something, I don't call $400 a night, "a bit more". Looks like a very nice spot but for me, only if it was the destination itself and not merely a place to rest between Rennsport days. I guess I went ultra cheapo, four nights in Santa Cruz for the price of one at Sea-Scape. Hope everyone has a great time at the event, cheers.

Try Marina. There's several chain motels. La Quinta, Comfort Inn and such. Marina's on Reservation Road which leads to the suggested gate to get into Laguna Seca.

When I DE Laguna Seca or attend an event there I always stay in Salinas. You can get a good room for under $100 a night and Big Joe's Bar B Q on Main st. is hard to beat for really good American chow. I always request a ground floor room where I can park my car in front and have found the people friendly and helpful and it's only minutes from LS.

Wow! I don't call that a bit more either. Their prices have doubled since I stayed there last! Sorry about that. The food suggestions are not pricey though if that counts for anything.

Thanks for the replies..
Thanks for the tip but we don't care about fancy lodging. It will be me and my 11 yr old. Just a place to sleep between the racing days, and a burger is all we need! It's already a privilege to be able to go to this event!
Will check the Marina and Salinas options. Seems nice and close by. I guess there will be lots of forum member attend this event? |

I am staying 15 minutes from the track along 68 by the Monterey Airport. Under $100 per night. I think rooms there may be on wait list, but the wait list may be short. I just canceled two of my block last week.
Rates may be $200 per night now as demand that close is high. I will be racing in Group 7.

Thanks for the info guys! Tickets are booked and can't wait!
We are easy to recognize. Look for a 41 year old weird talking and drooling guy and an 11 year old with a HUGE smile on his face! |
