Killing the Seatbelt Buzzer - 2010 Sube Forester

Anybody know the easiest way to destroy the seat belt warning chime, it's relay, or wire connections on a 2010 Forester?

I do a lot of driving on dirt roads with no other vehicles within many miles, and need to stop & start the vehicle, get out, mess around, then drive slowly another 100 yards, etc. over & over.

The warning chime is worse than a hailstorm and I want it dead.

Thanks!

Just click it and extend it fully and lock it down and sit on top of it.

It takes probably less than 4 seconds to clip and unclip a seatbelt.

Dirt roads have various hazards which can lead to various types of unpredictable results (ie: accidents).

Even if you stop/start 100 times during your daily routine, that only adds up to 400 seconds, or 6.6 minutes, which is most likely less time than it took you to turn on your computer, surf over to Pelican Parts, and post your question.

Just sayin'

I'd like to just kill it entirely - I have the presence of mind to use a seatbelt when risk amelioration is indicated. BTW - the speed on the dirt roads is less than a brisk walk.

Have an insert part as mentioned above, but...

I'd like to just kill the noise entirely.

Dont think you can, there's a easy way to disable it for the passenger side. There's a wire you can cut under the drivers seat that will disable it, however when I disabled mine it ended up triggering an airbag warning that wouldnt go away. Wasn't worth the risk that I actually had faulted the airbag, so I reconnected it.

I agree with Z on the matter though. Yes it's nannie-ish. Just buckle up, better to retain the habit.

The seatbelt chime and the TPMS are about the only 2 things I hate about my Subaru. I think they are both talked about ad nauseum on www.subaruoutback.org

To permanently disable this warning chime:

After turning the ignition switch ON, repeat fastening and unfastening the driver's seat belt for 20 times within 30 seconds.

Enabling and disabling this cutoff feature is done with the same operation. This setting is changed for both the driver's seat and passenger's front seat. This setting lasts until the microprocessor is reset. The disabling function is reset when the car battery is removed and/or when the body integrated unit is removed. The disabling function may also be reset when the engine is cranked with low battery voltage.

Since seat belt usage is the single most effective action that an occupant can take to reduce the risk of injury or death in a motor vehicle collision and safety is one the highest priorities at Subaru, 2005 Legacy and Outback vehicles (and future Subaru vehicles) have a belt reminder system for the front driver and passenger seats. This belt usage monitoring and reminder system is incorporated in Subaru vehicles with advanced airbag systems.

While there may be valid reasons for either temporary disabling the belt reminder system, Subaru does not encourage use of the permanent disablement feature. Not using the seat belt can increase the risk of injury or death in front, side, rear, rollover, etc. collisions and reduce the effectiveness of inflatable restraints ('airbags') because of out-of-position occupants. However, the final decision in such a matter resides with the vehicle owner.

Owners who permanently disable the belt reminder feature should reset the reminder system as soon as possible, especially if the vehicle is sold.

Try starting it, then cycling the seat belt in and out?

I wonder if that'll work with American cars....have to try it. I wear my seat belts when I'm driving but sometimes I want to just sit when the engine is running an stopped without a seat belt on.
