Sickening to watch. Thoughts go out to Dan Wheldon, and everyone else injured.
|
Whoa! massive conflagration there!
|
Dan Wheldon is gone.
Very sad day for all racing. |
Damn! Another face on the Indy 500 trophy is no longer with us... :(
|
Tony Kanaan walking out almost in tears was enough of an announcement.
|
Just very sad day.....Figured the outcome when they called the 2nd drivers Mtg.....RIP Dan Wheldon!
(Sidenote: Have a buddy here from Australia that doesn't know Danica from Adam. After hearing her long rambling interview, he said: It's all about Danica, isn't it) |
Interesting that the in-car feed from Wheldon's car was cancelled so quickly. I wonder if that's automatic, or is the feed delayed so the director can make the call?
Sad day. Godspeed. |
bad day, a great loss.......
|
He died doing what he loved, at least....very tragic to go out so young.....RIP Dan http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/smi10.gif

"I'll tell you, I've never seen anything like it," Ryan Briscoe said. "The debris we all had to drive through the lap later, it looked like a war scene from 'Terminator' or something. I mean, there were just pieces of metal and car on fire in the middle of the track with no car attached to it and just debris everywhere. So it was scary, and your first thoughts are hoping that no one is hurt because there's just stuff everywhere. Crazy."
"All I could see was cars flying. Without a doubt the worst thing I've ever seen in my racing career. It's sad, man, sad," said Davey Hamilton, who briefly choked up. "It's been 10 years, more than 10 years, since my accident at Texas. We're all a bunch of friends here, this is my family, and I was fortunate enough to come back. As I tried to tell everybody when I got hurt, when you put on a helmet and a firesuit, it's probably pretty dangerous. We accept that as racing drivers." |
A yellow sheet placed over a race car is always a bad sign of the expected outcome.
RIP Dan Weldon. |
I never saw the incident as the telecast was not shown because of an over running football game. It finally came on after the fact.
Hopefully the new cars next year are safer and they do not lose anyone else for a very long, long time. RIP Dan |
At one point there were three cars in the air at the same time. Just ugly, ugly.....
RIP Dan. |
|
A very sad day RIP DW
|
I was watching it live and as soon as it happened I "knew" it was bad. The network handled things the same as when I watched live the 1996 accident that killed Krosnoff on ABC. They would not show the driver being removed from the car, they covered the car being carried off, and anyone who came out of the medical center had that look on their face that they knew... I can't say that I was a big fan of Weldon but he was an excellent driver and he died doing what he loved. Prayers for his family.
