I think obama's ears are a little lower on the side of his head!!:D

djmcmath 10-16-2011 07:08 PM

It's a duck, right?

(Just joking -- you're WAY better than I'd be, especially after a couple of beers!)

I do chainsaw art, too, but mostly mine just look like firewood when I'm done.

Nice.

My aunt's family has owned a place up in Lake Hayward, Wis. for a looong time. They are also friends with Maurice Sendak. An old pine got turned into Mother Bear, Owl, Cat, Little Bear, and Duck by one of the winners of the annual chainsaw art competition... looks very nice.

Seems to be you ahve a good start... still have all your fingers?

Embraer 10-16-2011 07:56 PM

looks great!

gduke2010 10-16-2011 08:24 PM

Better than I could do. Looks great esp. for the first bear.

A place we stay in NM sells that stuff. For a few years they had guys doing them right behind the store and we could see it from the window of out apt. Very cool to watch them work. One year they were doing a pair of 12ft tall bears for an entry way to a ranch.

Never done it, but I've seen them use one of these for the finer work. Probably alot safer too:

I like the bear. Not bad at all.

Let it age a bit then rub some old sump oil over it to protect it.

the gal who's teaching me has one of those. the craftsman version of it. scary little thing. next weekend i'll start into the detail work.

Rusty Heap 10-17-2011 08:03 PM

Cool Bear! you can get special narrow tip bars for your saw to get the details.

heres my latest chainsaw "art" making firewood out of a 140 foot fir tree that was threatening to fall on my shop. That a a 1/2 dozen alder trees makes for a year or two of firewood.

Yes everyone here wears Flannel and owns 4 Stihl chainsaws..... it's just how we Roll in Seattle.

Just wanted to bump this, I am not doing chainsaw art, to messy here, but am doing some wood chipping with hand tools, posted in a close thread so I don't mess with yours.

livi 10-18-2011 10:59 AM

If thats done with a chainsaw I am duly impressed!

BeyGon 10-18-2011 12:17 PM

Varmit, here is one done by Cherie Currie, it's in front of our local music store. They say she has a website, "chainsawChick" or something like that.

my dog, who is afraid of the vacuum, has no problem laying three inches behind me while's swinging a saw around.
