Tired of the mendacity...
Don't often write to restaurants, but just sent this to the place where we had lunch....
I don't often feel compelled to write to restaurants. We're not big eaters, so we ordered your $19.- salmon salads for lunch today. They were tasty enough, but so tiny that both of us were hungry again by mid-afternoon. I don't see how you can sell a few spinach leaves and a speck of salmon as a lunch entree for $19.- and expect anyone to walk away from the table not feeling like they have just been had. And $11.- for a glass of Joie? If I am going to be mugged, I'd rather this happen with a gun to my head. It's more honest somehow. Regards,

I like the letter but guess I would ask if you expressed your disappointment at the restaurant before leaving earlier today as well. I would have done that and then followed up with the letter.
Not trying to Monday morning QB. I think the people in the trenches need to know that what they are putting in front of customers is under par whether it's quality, quantity or price. This behavior also helps explain why the tip is what it is. I think the tip reflects the quality of the food as well as the service. |

I would write something to a place if the food was bad, if the service was bad, but because you don't like the prices? get a grip. You don't have to go back.

Dean, from my read he is pissed cause he is still hungry after paying top dollar for a miniscule meal.
I too have left some eating establishments still feeling hungry a few times, when you order an 8 dollar sandwich and it has 2 pieces of thin sliced meat on it, i will usually say something, like hey i am still hungry can i have a second helping, or where the beef?

C'mon...for something like this there's not one method better than another to voice your opinion....snail mail, ring 'em, text, email, YouTube, letter to the editor.....it's the CONTENT of your communication that counts, isn't it?
"I think XXX is not a good value for what we received in quantity." Good for you to provide feedback!

How are they supposed to know what your stomach capacity is? I can hardly eat anything and feel stuffed... even when I don't get full, I'm secretly thankful that I'm not going to need a nap later in the day, and happy for all the calories I avoided.
Time to OCCUPY those bishes!

You should stop by Modeo in WierdLA some day... for like $40 you get 5 pieces of noodles with some fancy sauce on top. But that doesn't stop everyone from trying to get into the place.

Letters work.
If you're not happy then start writing them. Managers and owners take the time to read them. (mostly)

I just had this conversation with a friend this afternoon! She owns a restaurant I frequent and my complaint was that the portions were so large. I grew up being told to clean my plate and never throw food away, and I could not finish the meal. She said the cost of a portion of food is a small part of the cost of serving a client, so dumping more on the plate is cheap insurance that they'll be happy. Her take on skimpy portions is that it's currently chic ( "like serving raw fish and calling it food," I asked "No, that's sushi" she said). It's the latest fashion to serve small portions. I suppose you could be unfashionable and ask for seconds, but that would be like asking the sushi chef to deep fry the goldfish.

We have a ton of great breakfast places around us.
I hate to go. The amount of food is obscene. It's actually revolting and the sight of it kills my appetite. I have no issue paying the same price for a portion half the size at IHOP. On the other hand we got a new Hibachi place recently. When they first opened the portions were smaller than what one typically gets at one of those places. We said something about it and I think others did as well. The portion sizes are more in line with the price these days. Still a little less than normal but acceptable.

good letter! i would have probably put it on yelp.
i have been having the opposite problem. this one sandwich we love..it is huge. it is expensive. like little girls, a co-worker and i split it. why cant they make it more realistic in size and price it accordingly.? i cant say anything really. the place is packed solid. their formula works.

Maybe this establishment is trying to counteract the American Super-size meal strategy. Maybe they are looking out for their customers health.
Or maybe they are just trying to cheat their customers.. ![]()

Maybe they have consulted our first lady on the portions.

You don't need a brick tied to a Big Mac to break a window. The Big Mac will do the job just fine.....
