Golf. Anyone here cranking it out 300+ yards?

Participated in sports (alot), both NCAA and NAIA, and some pro...but not golf.

Wanted to return to golf after X years, but finding out AGAIN a sport where equipment (PWS, the adjustable weights, lofts, hybrids, putters XYZ, etc.,) are having, from this boy's view, a huge dominance in the game. In ball terms, reminds me of playing with a Sammy corked bat.

I'd like to see some professional restrictions, like backed to mandatory persimmons, as I'm not interested in the game being played for us. (At least Jack did it with traditional McGregors. )

Minus any changes......wondering how many here are consistently at 280-300+?

I play an old Tiltest 975D and hit one 310 (it must have bounced on a sprinkler head) the other day. I'm around 275 pretty consistantly, although we are at altitude here in Colorado.

I've had several of the newer drivers (983K, 905T, 907d2) over the last several years, but I like this old thing I bought for $15. I've bought about a dozen sets of irons over the same time period but I've stuck with the 690CB's that I bought in 2004.

I probably average ~260, with a few 300's and too many 200's thrown in the mix.

Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson can hit it 300 with your wifes driver.

Im 275 - 285 when I'm hitting it well.

What makes these pros unreal is not 320 of the tee its chipping and putting around the green.

I have played a number of times with a socal based pga pro. He splits time between the pga and champions. Nothing special in terms of distance of the tee. Even a couple foul balls here and there.

When we finish I always pay no matter how many strokes he gives me because he gets up and down everytime!

And maybe not. I don't see a Pavin getting it done on the real courses much anymore, CMP tees.
Bubba, Dustin, Davis, etc., and the European group gettin out there. And Watson, still long. And of course Phil is long, very long.

(275 is a club or two down next shot from a 250)

Not with any consistency. I entered a few long drive competitions maybe 10-15 years ago with a friend on a whim and was just middle pack at 315-330 IIRC.

I used to play 4-5 times a week, now I play maybe 8 rounds a year....everything I used to have is gone. Golf is an unloving whore.

I can hit it that far, although I can't stand to use any of the new, larger metal woods. I use an old Taylor driver that is probably 20 to 25 years old. It's more about the swing than the driver. I don't play much any more.

I don't use a driver...never had the patience to work with it enough to be consistent.

Off the box I use my 3 iron...I can live with 240 from my 3 iron. My game sucks anyhow. Who's got time to play these days

Only in my dreams. I know very few that can average 280-300. And still put it in the fairway. I don't care what driver you put in my hands, I just don't get it out there. I'm happy if one goes out to 250. The ones that win can drive it long and still have a good short game. My short game is good, but my distance off the tee puts a lot of pressure on it.

I'd sure like to find that mystery driver that would add 20 yds. But even though I try out a new one from time to time I havn't found it. I'm starting to think it may be me.

Pavin never hit it long when he was a premier player. I think back in the day Palmer hit the ball 300. So did Jack.

Im not argueing that technology hasnt gotten the guys to hit it farther. My point is that the guys who win are chipping and putting the best.

Luke Donald is no bomber.

The farther you hit it, the more likely you are to miss the fairway. Hitting it a mile is not the way to a low score. Well, it might help on a par 5, but not the other holes. If you hit it straight.

My son cranks out 300+ Drives all day long - me 220. But his short game/putting sucks and I usually beat him by 10+ strokes

Some guys I play with will get a new driver every now and then...judging from their tee shots...it isn't money well spent.

Legitimate 300 yard drives are pretty rare amongst the recreational golfer crowd. Carry is a better measure than total distance. I have never hit a 300 yard drive, but I have hit line drives on hard fairways that rolled to 300.

I currently use a Ping driver that is about 5 years old. I'm a long hitter, drive goes probably 290 on average and I usually get a couple out there 310-320 per round. I'm 6'5" though so I have a wide swing arc which helps. I'm not playing much these days with kids and other stuff going on. When I was playing regularly I was about a 5 handicap.

I played in a three day tourney last week. On the last day, one of the guys in my sixsome was a 13. In the first ten holes, he had four birdies and an eagle. Anyone that plays in tournaments knows what I'm saying . . .
