Question or IT, PC guys. Thanks.
First of all, I am not crazy nor have seen ghosts, so please think about what I see. My interenet speed on my laptop is very weird.
My internet cable speed can be as low as 20+ mb, and as fast as 30+ mb. My laptop was slow when using wireless. I then ran a cable directly to it, and disabled wireless. Now, it's extremely slow. At first, I thought it was a bad cable, but when I ran speed test, it's up there comparable to by desktop. Meaning, speed test is showing it's has fast speed, but in reality, it is extremely slow. Any thought? |
I have no idea why it changes as far as direct cable versus wireless unless they go thru different inputs to the motherboard and your ethernet card is bad.
I had a problem with my DSL speed dropping to a crawl. The line was at the correct speed but my computer was gosh-awful slow. After much head scratching, it ended up being a problem with a recent Flash update. I uninstall/reinstalled Flash and the speed came back. |
the speed tests on the same laptop is fast (20+ mb). Accessing any website is slow, include reading email from yahoo. Yes, it's as slow as crawling. If I unplug the cable, turn on wireless, speed test is slower but accessing internet is a little better.

Boot safe mode with networking and see what you get. You may have something sucking up your b/w. You can also try running WireShark and see if you're getting traffic when you shouldn't be getting traffic, or if you're having some other issue.
