Northern Lights?--over Michigan?!
What an incredible sight about 20 minutes ago!
![]() Green/blue/red tints to the sky towards the North. Anyone know if the NL can be seen that far away? In my 44 years on this planet I have never seen anything like this in person.

Saw them up here in Traverse City. Unbelievable. Heard they were seeing them as far south as Ohio.

Yes. We have them at 45 degrees lattitude here in Oregon on exceptional times. You are further North from me.
Wish I saw it! Larry |

In times of exceptional solar activity, they have been seen as far south as north Florida.

I saw them in the late 40's, blue and white, in northeastern Pennsylvania. New Philadelphia to be exact. There was a lot of confusion and consternation among many. Church bells ringing, little old Lithuanian ladies rushing to church to pray for whatever. Fortunately my mother was better educated or informed than many and explained Aurora borealis to me. I can see the lights in my mind's eye as if it were yesterday. Such was growing up in a coal town in Appalachia.

Best I ever saw them was from a plane. SFO to Toronto (I think) although it might have been Seattle to Chicago . . . The pilot came on & said look out the window if you were on the "A" side. Incredible.

Wayne, I saw them last night too.
That was the 4th time I've seen them down here, 5th time in my life. I woke my 10 year old son up so he could see too. My wife and mum were on the phone during last night's show and my mum recounted the story of me watching an amazing NL show when I was a teenager- the lights were so extreme that I was sure something bad had happened, nuclear disaster or something.

The first time I saw them along I-94 near Minneapolis, I thought it was an alien invasion..... it's just that unbelievable. Truly one of the world's most beautiful phenomenon.

The news story said they were seen as far South as Georgia.
Now, why didn't I look out the window last night? Larry |

I saw them last light about 9:30PM Eastern about halfway from Toronto to London Ont. Only the second time in my life I have seen red. The last time was 40 years ago. Common enough when I was young and living in northwestern Ont. Too much light pollution here in the south, but last night was incredible.

Have lived in Washington for a little over 50 years. Never have seen them until a couple of years ago. Woke up the whole family around 1:30am to see the show.
Figured that for around here, it may have been a once in a lifetime event. Not one of them complained about getting woke up. Very cool.
