[QUOTE=bpu699;6336434]The OP wasn't charged $200 for a refill. That is incorrect, and there is lots of info missing. Docs do so much for free, its unbelieveable. Your anger is displaced.

I see that now. And I am not angry. I just pay the bills.

The Justin Beeber example is ironic to me because I would like to know why he's in the US, making his $ in Canada is so great? Why do many, many Canadians come here (William Shatner, etc...) to earn a living? Could it have something to do with taxes in CA? I have worked in Detroit with many Canadians and they all have Dr's on the US side of the border that they see because they tell me the care here is much better than in CA, mainly because they can get an appt and see a Dr here, and's it takes a long time and much triage before they can see a Dr in Canada. Just saying...

The other day at our hospital we had an uninsured patient in the operating room bleeding internally after a car accident. During the surgery I found unexpected cancer. At 5 AM I called a cancer surgeon I barely know and asked for help. He arrived and operated for 4 hours, saving the patients life. He had to cancel his scheduled surgeries to do this. He left the operating room never having met the patient. The patient is poor and uninsured and will never get a bill of any kind from this surgeon. The surgeon's only questions to me were about the patients condition. This is how it is.

In 20 years I've never had a doctor refuse to help in an emergency and I've never had one ask me if the patient had insurance or was able to pay a medical bill.

Man, that's a good story. Except maybe at the track, you won't see a Porsche mechanic open his tool box for free, especially for someone he's never met.

According to the book "Star spangled Canadians" there were 660,000 Canadians working in the US in 2000 of which I am one.

In reference to the OP or anyone getting a bill they think is wrong, request an itemized bill from the insurance company. Mistakes are common.
