Fried Chicken and waffles -- really?

I must live a sheltered life because I first heard of this when I was in Nashville a few weeks ago. I thought it was a joke. I could just imagine some 400 lb lady bellying up to the table and wrapping an Eggo around a fried chicken leg, dunking it a trough of Mrs. Butterworths, and chowing down. Then I overheard a discussion of the "best" place in Nashville to find this gastronomic nightmare.
This insult to the palate is spreading like a virus. A restaurant in my home town in Ohio serves it now. I haven't actually seen this abominable dish yet, but the thought of a piece of fried chicken swimming with a waffle in a pool of syrup is ... let's say unappealing. Has anyone actually tried waffles and fried chicken? Is it as awful as it sounds?

i dont like it. i've tried it. but i am not a waffle fan.

it really is about that salty - sweet combo. like breakfast sausage or bacon stabbed with a bite of pancake. delicious!

i also had fried chicken with a tiny drizzle of honey. damn good.

It's crispy, savory, salty and sweet. It's pretty amazing, but I only indulge very rarely.

When fried chicken is being used as a condiment, you know you have some dish going there!

Hmm, new one to me.

Doesn't sound like my thing, but I can see how it might be tasty.

Ever had waffle dogs? College days, all we had in our fridge was a pack of hot dogs, and a few frozen waffles, and a mean buzz on at 4 am, ..... a new delicacy was born.

I was in an all day meeting a couple months ago and they brought in Roscoes for lunch.
I was not impressed.
I'd rather eat KFC than Roscoes and KFC sux IMO.

I find your racism offensive.

Airkuhl, what is the "racist" reference here? I don't get it. Chicken and waffles might be on the soul food side of the menu, but I didn't see any sort of inference or subtle allusion to racism in wdfifteen's post. I am familiar with this breakfast, I prefer my waffles with either bacon or sausage, or just the waffle all alone in real NY maple syrup. What's the beef, anyway? And PS to wdfifteen, the chicken isn't in the syrup, maybe you should get away from your laptop and check it out in person.

I think Airkuhl was making a joke. Chicken fried steak in Houston is to die for. Eat it enough and you will die.

So, you live in SW OHIO,

and you put spicy chili and Cheddar Cheese on top of SPAGHETTI NOODLES,

but you think Chicken and Waffles is weird.

Isn't life grand?

Oh yeah. Skyline is to die for. I'm there at least once a week. "A Four Way onion and a Dr. Pepper please. Easy on the cheese."
People talk about how weird it is to put that sauce (it's not chili in my book) on pasta, but never mention the little bowl of oyster crackers that comes with it. I have to admit I've never found crackers with spaghetti appealing. I put hot sauce on the crackers and eat them while I wait for the Four Way to be served.
I just can't get my head around fried chicken and waffles on the same plate. Is it a breakfast dish? Or lunch? Dinner?
