Any Tips Canada Border Crossing W/ Shotgun

I am headed to Detroit / Windsor to Duck hunt with friends in Canada. Fly in to US Drive over the border.

I'm taking 1 auto loading shotgun Beretta A303, no ammo
Past hunting licenses US
Hunter Safety Card Minnesota Circa 1979
Passport
Drivers License

I have the required paper work from the Canada to fill out (There is plenty) any other tips to make this less of a hassle. One of the guys does this every year. I am tring to make contact with him.

I would appreciate any tips to avoid problems.

ALL fully automatic weapons, handguns and pepper spray are prohibited in Canada.
You must obtain a gun permit for your guns. Refer to Royal Canadian Mounted Police - Canadian Firearms Program | Gendarmerie royale du Canada - Programme canadien des armes à feu. You may bring a hunting rifle or shotgun into Ontario for hunting or Competition purposes in you are 18 years of age or older. Firearms must be Registered for a fee of $25. This permit is valid for a period of 60 days. You can also bring up to 200 rounds of ammunition for hunting or 1,500 rounds for use at a recognized shooting competition. Any amounts of ammunition in excess must be tax paid.

Hopefully someday Canada will realize that the criminals do not have to fill out any paperwork. Neither should law abiding citizens of the US or the GWN.

Won't happen, right now we have the lowest crime rate since 1970. In 98% of Canada the consensus is why do you need more than a long gun?

However 98% of Canadians are also in favour of the fence you are talking about putting up along the border.

Just keep telling the criminals that!

BTW, agree on the fence on both of our borders. Not worried about you guys (my copilot is from Ottawa) but the "others" that sneak across the border intent on killing both Canadians and Americans. Someday as well hopefully you guys will stop letting anyone and everyone in the country.

One of the funiest things I ever saw was American hunters in northern Quebec hunting caribou, they had the camo gear on and scopes on their rifes that were huge, guess they didn't know that you can walk up to 20 feet of them or just sit still and wait, they will come to you. Walter Payton showed up that year too, I think Bow hunting, had an NBC or ABC crew following him everywhere, it was the year after he retired and they were filming a "whats Walter doing now" clip. We knew who he was but the locals didn't and couldn't care less. There was only 1 hotel in town, Shefferville, so we got to have beers and BS sessions with Walter, real nice guy BTW. Too bad he's gone.

Canadian Treaty Indians can cross the border going south to hunt, anywhere, anytime, sometimes the parks are closed to them but not that often, show their treaty card and away they go, they can also hunt anytime and anywhere in Canada too as long as the game is for their own personal consumption.
I do my hunting at Safeway - the meat department.

Current government has tabled legislation to end the long gun registry. It has cost me as a taxpayer 2 billion dollars and was the worst POS regulations that a government had ever introduced. Not sure how it will effect visitors bringing long guns across the border as of yet. But as soon as the registry is repealed I will no longer be a criminal. Have fun hunting.
