Is it possible to loose 5 pounds in one day?

Since I have quit smoking, I have been keeping an eye on my weight. Food tastes so damn good now, I could easily become a fat bastage. ( I already have a gut) if I don't keep it all in check .
I weigh myself every morning.
I worked my ass off yesterday at the rental house. I was working up on the 3rd floor, I was up and down 4 flights of stairs with heavy tool boxes, drywall, rolls of carpet, and supplies all day, and we did not really eat all day. I did however eat like a king when I got home. To my surprise , this am, I am down 4-5 lbs from yesterday. Is that possible?

If you did, it is all fluid and you will gain it back. Otherwise you would be quite dehydrated.

Check your scale.

I lost more than that last tuesday but then again I did have a stomach bug. Not a good way to diet

This. You can lose that much in fluid, but losing 5lbs of fat would mean you burned 20,160 calories; the average person burns fewer than 4,000 running a marathon, and ~10,000 during an Iron Man triathlon.

My weight can easily fluctuate 5 lb over the course of a day. Water, food, waste . . .

Absolutely. I have the same type of experience from time to time. A day when you're really busy, and don't eat as much/in your usual way will often create that sort of swing. Your first day of eating normal again, you may keep 3 of those pounds off, but probably not the whole 4.5.

quit climbing that scale. a better indicator on what's happening with your body is a cheap seamstress measuring tape. keep tabs on your gut. (not TABS literally..yuck)

if i eat a bran muffin and chase it with some coffee..i could lose some serious weight.

Congrats on the smoking ban..that is fantastic news. glad it took.

Water is almost 8lbs per gallon, so when you lose fluid, you can seem to lose a lot of weight, but it will come right back and you don't want to be dehydrated, especially when trying to lose weight.

I can certainly put it on in a day.

Yes - congrats on the smoking habit drop......very nice.

I agree that fluids are accounting for most of the loss in weight.

Keep charging!

I can lose 5lbs just taking a dump in the morning. ;)

Hehe. Sounds a bit like after I ate chicken curries in the staff cafateria when I worked for the railways. Something like an enima.

It's like the joke from years ago. The fat woman wanted to lose 10lbs of ugly fat, she was told to cut off her head.

I've lost up to 5 lb's just driving a kart for an hour and a half straight in summer. Like the others have said, it is mostly fluid loss, gotta drink up!

Yes, surgically.
In a natural healthy way? Nope.

Best diet......get lost at sea for about a month on a raft. Easily loss 25 - 100 lbs depending on how fat you are.
