Which OS are you running

Just out of curiosity, what OS(s) is everyone running.

I work on with a variety of them:

Windows - 7 on desktops/laptops for work and home and various versions on servers for work
OS X on several Macs at home.
Linux - RHEL for work, Gentoo and Vector on laptop at home.

There should be a good mix here.

slodave 10-31-2011 04:38 PM

Win 7, XP, Vista, server 2003/2008/foundation, slackware Linux.

fbeatty 10-31-2011 04:57 PM

cool slodave, another man running a mix. I like Slack, ran it for a while before switching to Gentoo.

RedBaron 10-31-2011 05:03 PM

Running 10.7.2 on my mac with a second partition (Windows 7). My summer job is a mixture of Server 2003/2008 with Windows 7 and Snow Leopard Server Edition.

wdfifteen 10-31-2011 05:07 PM

10.5.8 on this MacBook Pro. Something similar on my office machine. Kinda ticked off at Apple when I discovered OSX doesn't support floppy drives. I don't have much saved on them, but I hate having to wake up my old Quadra to read them.

masraum 10-31-2011 05:08 PM

I haven't tinkered with Linux in a long time unless you count my android phone.

I just bought a new PC that came with Win 7 Home Premium. It's replacing a PC that was running Vista Ultimate.

Scott R 10-31-2011 05:11 PM

Debian, work and home.

Normy 10-31-2011 05:14 PM

I think it is 10.6.01 on my Mac. How do I reference that?

Perfectly happy. I'd be happier if it had an X server available so I could use it as a terminal to my big box, but it does what it needs to do. Before CM7 I tried Honeycomb but it wasn't very stable.

XP on my work station (typing now) but we have some dinosaurs running 95, NT 4.0, Win 2000.

Vista at home but I want to upgrade to 7, however after messing with computers all day not big on messing with my computer at home (see above) wife even nags about "never tuning that thing on". Plan is to just use it for word processor, spreadsheet, and photo/music editing.

However I don't (gasp) have Internet at home... when I stop dragging my feet on that I will upgrade my home computer.

fbeatty 11-01-2011 03:54 PM

Thanks everyone. Replies just confirmed what I thought. There is a really good mix out there.

The cool part is there was no evangelical bashing of anything. Just another reason I like these boards an P-people.

on2wheels52 11-01-2011 04:05 PM

My database for the pawnshop runs fine with DOS5 but when it got too big to backup to a floppy disc I had to go to Win98SE to use a jump drive. Home machine is Win7, notebooks are XP.

Probably the best there was if you're a Windows user. Never owned a Mac, but I think Windows X has been chasing Mac all along.

Keep it simple, keep it basic. Don't need no stickin' Paper Clip. If I want help, I'll click on "help."
However, I do fine on XP. I don't expect to get much further unless I buy a Mac.

Windows has sucked balls forever for pics. The good stuff should have been programmed in from early on. Come on folks, what does the average joe do with their computer?

Baz 11-01-2011 05:29 PM

Windows Vista Home Basic ;)

The computer company was spelled with a 1, but the OS wasn't

PR1ME is the Power!

KaptKaos 11-01-2011 07:05 PM

From Wikipedia here: PRIMOS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PRIMOS was an operating system developed during the 1970s by Prime Computer for its minicomputer systems. It rapidly gained popularity and by the mid-1980s was a serious contender as a mainline minicomputer operating system. With the advent of PCs and the decline of the minicomputer industry Prime was forced out of the market in the early 1990s.

Prime Computer is also sometimes referred to as "Pr1me" and PRIMOS as "Pr1mos". (Note: Actual system documentation of the day displays the alternate spelling as "PR1ME" or PR1MOS", which avoids the unfortunate visual "hump" that appears in the lower-case rendition due to the height of the "1").

red-beard 11-01-2011 07:30 PM

Nah. I used Prime 300s and Prime 550s. PRIMOS was always with an "I". It was just in the advertisements that the "1" was used.
