I'm getting one to supplement my original GoPro HD for in-car. It has an external mic input (finally - the built-in mic sucks), will have a remote control, and various other improvements for the same price as the last version.

I'll hang the original one someplace interesting, maybe outside the car, which I never wanted to risk when it was my only one.

I'm definitely getting one now that it has an external mic input. That was all I was waiting for.

The image quality is surreal for something that costs $300.

Yeah me too. I have the Contour, but on a recent trip was able to use the GoPro and I really liked it...

there is a huge debate between go pro and contour. like chevy versus ford.

can the gopro link up to an iphone as a quick viewer? i believe the contour can.

Ha! I actually just sold my GoPro HD to buy a Contour+ with the external mic. I jsut couldn't put up wioth the crap sound quality anymore. I really like the Contour and it's ease of use, but the GoPro was nice with the waterproof case and suction mount right out of the box.

hmm, you can use it( Contour gps) with the Cyclemeter app, too.... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MM43fGvHj7c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I have the First HD Contour. Picture is very good, but the audio is terrible. I prefer the profile of the contour and I was looking really hard at the contour HD/GPS with the external mic, but after using the GoPro and my Contour on a recent three week motorcycle trip I think the picture and sound quality are better on the GoPro. I havent seen any videos and sound with the new Contour though.

Also I was told the GoPro is also going to be able to be linked to your smartphone as well.

The original cannot, AFAIK, but there is an LED back for it that can be used for previewing and playback, and also makes the interface for settings far more user-friendly. Trying to position the camera without being able to see its field of view was hit-or-miss without the display back.

There are some trick new accessories coming as well.

Whats the waterproofedness of the GoPro(how deep can I take it)?

Can the camera be used for diving?

Yes, the camera housing is rated waterproof down to 180 ft (60m), and our head strap mount is a great way to wear the camera on your forehead just above the diving mask. Please note that due to the curved lens of the waterproof housing for the HD HERO camera and standard def Wide HERO cameras, you will notice a slight loss of sharpness with underwater images. We are developing a flat glass adapter / housing specifically for underwater use, thus allowing for the same image sharpness that you enjoy with your GoPro camera above water.
