Legoland?
 

Good for a day? Two?

I have a 5-year-old boy who loves LEGO and a 2-year-old girl who loves whatever the boy loves. :)

Thinking a trip there would be a better time spent than throwing the lad a b'day party.

Is it worth the 12+ hour round trip?

Which location?

The amusement park in CA?

Yeah, Carlsbad.

I'd say yeah, it would probably be worth it. One day may be enough for a five year old.

Should be easy good for 1 day. 2 does not seem like a stretch.

I hate theme parks, but I always liked LegoLand. We first went not long after they had opened so it was still a work in progress. It still was cool. Perfect for kids under 12. Very interactive for the kids as they have rides where they get to do things rather than just sit there.

Well worth it. Take plenty of camera memory and batteries ( or film, if old school ). Keep an eye out for Darth Vader. And we'll expect some pics of your trip! Enjoy!

I looks like the 2nd day option is a minimal fee. With younger kids I found it best to not make theme park visits a grueling endurance test. With 2 days you can spend the day in the park and then knock off at 3 or 4 pm to hit the beach and grab some non-amusement-park food.

Legoland in Carlsbad is a great place to take the kids for a full, fun day!!

Don't go with my wife.

Kids and I are usually good for 5-6 hours and then we are done.

My wife will want to spend 12 hours at Disney.

I thought you meant the original, in Denmark. In that case me and my kids could have joined you. :)

Yep... two short days are better than one long for little ones. Definitely check the hours this time of year. They're closed a couple of days in the middle of the week.

Legoland is better by a mile than disney.

Get a hotel and enjoy the beach, Encinitas, San Diego are a short drive from Legoland.

Then there is Sea world and the zoo.

We went there in March and had a great time!
2 days in Legoland (we stayed at the Sheraton right next door so no driving) then we went to seaworld and came back to legoland again cause for little kids there is no better place!
One of the best vacations. I want to go back next year!

here's what got me a legoland. Bryce loved it, i didnt have something getting sold to me every three steps, and the food was good. Even healthy.

I've enjoyed going the two times I've taken my kids, but it's considerably overpriced, IMO. I think admission is something like $65 for an adult, and not much less for a kid. Parking's another $12 or so. So just to get in the door we were spending about $250 for a family of 4.

The place doesn't open until about 10. And unlike other theme parks, closes by 5. So the day is a short one. Of course, little kids might not last much longer than that, anyway, I suppose.

The vast majority of the rides are not for adults. So as a parent, you're spending $65 to chaperone your kid. On maybe 5 or 6 rides for the entire day, combined. (They're long, slow lines.) Heck, they should offer free admission to every adult who brings a kid.

But the kids love it, nonetheless.

I haven't done the marine park or water park attached to Legoland, so can't comment on those.

What about the Legoland in Florida? I am headed there in about a month. Ages 5 (b) and 3 (g). I have never been to Florida - heck not even on a plane since I was 13. We are there for a week.

For the money, insanely overpriced just like Disney. $65- $85 each admission, and you still have hotel and food on top of that?

I'd take my kid to learn about the world and different cultures, people, history, foods, locations.

Take the kid to Mexico, or Belize, Central America somewhere to make the kids appreciate what they have at home. Even Hawaii, or somewhere to show them that the world isn't a sanitized Lego/Disney land place and to get out and learn and see the real world that isn't microwave processed cruise ship fakeness.............

GASP, radical new work policy was just put in place at Disneyland..........employees there (as long as they're not in direct contact with customers) are now allowed to wear beards.

guess I want to show youngsters the real world, not a pre-processed fake and bake microwave hot-pocket buritto version of it.

Your kids may actually learn something and take away life lessons. gasp.

just my humbe opinion, your milage may vary
