Anyone done a barrel roll?

Sorry if this is a report. Searched, didn't find.

Go to Google.
Type in "Do a barrel roll"

IE doesn't work.

In a previous life he flew F-111's...and this one is stunt rated.

(edit) Should have googled before posting this..

It's the first thing I learned to do, riding a motorcycle.

trekkor 11-04-2011 12:04 PM

I did a barrel roll yesterday.

Last night on my home PC, it didn't work on my phone.

I also learned how to do a proper monkey roll from the master. ;)
(Not last night)

I'm not a pilot but isn't that an aileron roll as opposed to a barrel roll?

Joeaksa 11-04-2011 12:33 PM

More times than I can count... and still love it!

azasadny 11-04-2011 01:26 PM

Lobster roll...

Lobster (not monkey) roll!

Does making barrel wash count? :)

targa911S 11-04-2011 02:33 PM

Yes. I flew in the the Rayban aerobatic plane once. Did em all. Snap rolls, outside roll, hammer, figure 8. Better than sex.

Once in a 172, and it took forever.

Flieger 11-04-2011 05:10 PM

A perfectly done barrel roll is not an aerobatic maneuver technically, right? Because you do not excees 1 g positive (in addition to the earth's gravity).

vas930 11-04-2011 05:15 PM

Yes, when racing karts.
I broken shoulder to go with it.

cgarr 11-04-2011 05:21 PM

The Barrel Roll is a not competition maneuver. I The barrel roll is a combination between a loop and a roll. You complete one loop while completing one roll at the same time. The flight path during a barrel roll has the shape of a horizontal cork screw. Imagine a big barrel, with the airplanes wheels rolling along the inside of the barrel in a cork screw path. During a barrel roll, the pilot experiences always positive G's. The maximum is about 2.5 to 3 G, the minimum about 0.5 G

But you do exceed the 60 degree bank and 30 degree pitch so it would be an aerobatic maneuver technically

But this guy takes the cake! I love it!

Yes it is acro... remember that we are limited to a certain bank angle (forget what it is, believe 45 or 60 degrees) and past that its acro and you legally should be wearing a parachute...

I was going to say yes but all I did were aileron type rolls.

It was in a Pitts S2A in the early 90's. I also performed loops and hammerhead stalls. The loops and rolls were fun. The hammerhead stalls were unnerving. Shallow dive, pull back on the stick until the horizon moves to 90 degrees, and keep going. Just before you stop, kick the rudder over just before you fall backwards and do a 180 degree turn left to point straight down.

I've done a barrel roll on my snow skies a few times and at least once on my sled :)
