Interesting (and disgusting) cause of PC (Warning: fecal material!!) failure...

We have a guinea pig in a cage in our garage because we're taking care of it for a friend. I had a bag of guinea pig food, sealed in a plastic bag on a shelf in the garage. Some time between Tuesday night and Thursday AM (I was out of town), the mice came in, ate the food , crapped and peed all over the garage and generally made a disgusting mess. I noticed that the old Dell PC that I keep on the desk in the garage wasn't running and I tried to power cycle it, but it wouldn't power up. After cleaning the garage yesterday and vacuuming up the mouse debris with my Craftsman Shop Vac, I turned my attention to the dead PC today and this is what I found...

Not only did the little b*stards pee and crap all over the nice warm innards of the PC, they chewed on the wires, shorting it out and killing it. I kicked one of them and killed it yesterday, which made me feel good (mouse killer)!, but now I have glue traps all over the place and I removed their food source.

I knew mice could make a hell of a mess in a car, but I didn't think about what they could do to a PC. The warm interior must have been attractive to them after they ate their fill of guinea pig food. What a mess!!!

What a frikken mess!!!

Looks like a herd?, pod?, gaggle? of mice attacked. I'm always fighting them too since I live in a rural area. Gophers too. Hate em.

Marv,
I think the term is a "plethora" of mice!!! I keep finding piles of poop and it was 2-3 days. I can't imagine how bad it would have been if I wouldn't have noticed the mess yesterday!

3 more mice in the glue traps today. I read that peppermint oil kwwps the rodent's away, so I put some on absorbent material and strategically placed it around the garage. I hope to keep the rodents out, if I Can...

If you are seeing fecal material you are in the wrong hole. :)

Good thing Helga isn't there to see this......yuck
Good Luck

So that's why they call it a "pee see".

azasadny 11-07-2011 04:50 PM

Yep, the "pee See" is dead and I have to replace it. Won't boot up after the little fargin' bastages chewed the wiring and peed/pooped on everything!

When Helga ('74 911) was stored in the garage for the winter, I put a ring of mothballs on the floor completely around the car. I also put a Bounce sheet in the glove compartment. In 8 winters, I never had a mouse leave any "presents" in the car. Be careful with mice, they can make a huge mess in a very short time.

3 more dead mice today. The bastages figured out how to get the bait off the glue traps without getting caught so I'm looking for another trap...

teenerted1 11-09-2011 03:21 PM

keep up the traps but get out some poison bait to kill the bastards.

azasadny 11-09-2011 04:03 PM

I got three more mice this AM, but apparently they figured out how to eat the bait without getting stuck in the trap. They flip the trap over, crawl under, eat the bait and don't get stuck. This weekend I'll be buying more poison/traps/thermonuclear devices to kill them off!

get a cat, nothing more efficient @ killing mice then that.
Rodents will learn to defeat traps, and recognize poison but i have yet to see them find a workaround for cats..

+1 My little monster Sonic has no mercy. I live on a man made island with lots of big fat rats around.
Mr Sonic often leaves one at my back door for me to find in the mornings :D
