Who here has shipped tires?

I need to ship some tires that I sold on Ebay and I wanted to know how other have done it for the best rate. They will be shipped as is with no box. Some preliminary estimates for shipping looks like they are still much more then what TireRack can send them to me for. I recently just got 4 tires in 2 bundles for $56. Thanks.

tape 2 together and shrinkwrap. I then put a band of tape around the circumference.

TireRack probably gets 30% - 50% off from FedEx/UPS than what the average consumer would for shipping.

What he said, bulk rate guys get the killer deals. You could try Greyhound. But they are portal to portal.

I had 4 205s shipped to me, bundled in two with banding tape, and industrial saran wrap.

Did you just give the weight and go with oversized? Ups or Fedex?

porsche4life 11-06-2011 04:51 PM

They came ups. Just give basic weight a overall dimensions

Parcel Post is cheap but takes a while.. I agree with Shawn,, tape two together then wrap them up

Greyhound is a good option too.

I've done this more times than I can remember.

pack them by two's.

Band them at 0, 90, 180, 270 degrees with shrink wrap followed by packing tape.
Attach the prepaid label right on the side.

never have had a problem.

I shipped a set from Chicago to New Jersey - tires and rims. UPS.

sign up for an account. I entered in weights and sizes without an account on FedEx, then saw the tab on the website where you can apply for an account (you do not need to be a business). I logged in, re-entered the same data and the rate dropped by about 25-30% IIRC. Took just a couple minutes.

Definately band together in pairs. Keeps the weight down for each bundle. No, shipping is not cheap for the average person. Hope your charging for S&H.

Shipped the tires today USPS for $16/each. Bound together, it jumped the price up to $65 because of the size. I'm happy since I estimated the shipping charges to be $35.

About 5 years ago I shipped 4 tires to Zeke in Long Beach, CA and I shipped them Fedex and they strapped them on a pallet. The shipping charges were crazy expensive, though...
