Aussie members...a REAL car on ebay there

Dare to be different? Probably not.

exhaust tips not stock. Probably had to quiet things down to meet aussie rules?

Ford : Mustang | eBay

;)

I'd volunteer to obtain & ship a stock Bullitt exhaust axle back for anybody from this board who buys this car. Just the labor, to buy & ship, of course...Anybody who can afford $88K US for a car that sold new here for a bit above 30K can afford it.

Probably was a big job to convert this to right hand steering & comply with all Aussie regs. Would definitely be a unique and attention grabbing ride down under.

That car is not far away from where I live.

In 2008 a client of mine purchased a new Bullitt (not the one of eBay) and had it converted to RHD. The total cost to purchase the car, import to Aus and convert was $88,500. At the time he suggested the market value was about $110,000. (I only remember this because I was going to arrange finance for him and have notes on the file!)

Obviously he loved the car, unfortunately I never got to drive it!

It would be cheaper to do now though because of the exchange rate.

just curious are you required to convert a car to RHD in Australia?

If not is it just too awkward to drive LHD?

That depends on the age of the car. There are a lot of classic American muscle cars that have been kept and driven as a LHD.
There are also a lot that have been converted to RHD. :(

I don't find it awkward. Just inconvenient.

BTW: The Mustang in the ad was probably converted here and possibly by Ford Australia.

I wish the pics had shown the strut bar number...from the VIN, I'd guess it was made near the end of the Bullitt run. Probably a bigger strut bar number than my #6380.

Want rare? Both '08-'09 years, there were 6,582 Bullitts made. In '09? Only 629 in Green, 181 in black.

It's astounding how much more expensive those modern/niche models are over here. I saw a brand-new 2012 Mustang GT here for ~$130k, albeit converted to RHD and sold with warranty support, but man... that seems a colossal markup.

In my home state of Victoria (and I live within 30mins of that eBay 'stang too), if the vehicle in question is older than 30 years old, it is legal to register as LHD. Although, it kinda makes me wonder how a 29 year old car poses any more or less threat of catastrophe than a 30+ year old car, but that's the rule I guess.

My American cars are all LHD and I have no plans to butcher them into RHD. I quite enjoy driving around on the wrong side of the car.

However, it makes visibility in round-a-bouts a bit dicey and McDonalds drive-thrus interesting. Plus, I keep walking up to the wrong side of the car. ;)

Really, It's not that bad.

A few years ago "Yanks" were buying American muscle cars from here and shipping them back.
Not surprisingly they often "passed" on a car that had been converted to RHD although some were shipped back and converted back to LHD.

Locally we have regular meeting called the "Whipple Cruise". Classic American muscle cars are very prominent. :D

Bill, That's funnier than hell!

Anybody down there who has gone to see this car? If you do, I'd really like to know the strut bar number...

GG Allin 11-11-2011 09:07 AM

From the thread title I was expecting some Holden W427 content.

livi 11-11-2011 09:08 AM

Have you seen Vas around here? :)

Not recently...when was his last post? Hmmmm.

livi 11-11-2011 09:42 AM

Several days ago. He was apparently very put off by some less than civil manners displayed in another thread. Too bad. Nice guy.

pwd72s 11-11-2011 09:45 AM

LInk to the thread? I must have missed it..

Yep, too bad. Much to the dismay of those who get uncivil, I stick around. Though I'll admit to have taken leaves of absence from time to time.

livi 11-11-2011 10:14 AM

I believe it was the 'NormOline' thread. It was closed. Probably lingers a few pages back now.

I vaguely remember that...yes, it got nasty. But that's our Normy, isn't it?

jluetjen 11-11-2011 10:21 AM

What?!!!!

I thought all Aussie cars had blowers sticking through the bonnet!
