Final sanding is done and stain applied......I used red oak stain for a "winchester red" color.

Out of the boiling tank for the 10th time, and steel wooled. These are "dry" right now. I'll soak them in oil for a few days and I think they will be done..

Before I start finishing the little bugger I think I'll put it together and shoot it. No sense in putting more hours in it if it's just gonna blow up on me. Wish me luck. Yes the "long string tired to a rest" method will be used.

Looking great, David! Great choice on the stain color...really makes it look "correct"! The wood on that stock is beautiful, and again, I am glad we could save it, as it is part of the gun's original soul. I am looking forward to seeing the tru-oil on it. The barrels are beautiful...they will be like mirrors when oiled.

Is there any way for you to video the test firing? Not only would it be great to see the maiden firing, I think it would be great to actually see a string test! No big deal if it is more trouble than it would be worth, just thought I throw it out there.

Thanks for the progress and pics...it is turning out better than I had hoped!

Just a question (from ignorance) but why did you leave the shoulder pad attached?

I live in the forest ..really I do. mice are always in my shop. I catch 2-3 a week. Then I take their cigarettes away and smoke them. hey it's my only vice.

The original pad was bonded on so I restored it left it in place.
Thanks Roux
