Unless that Type 181 is a complete basket case, don't waste it - they're starting to gain a following.
The Ghia in this pic was recently featured on "Chasing Classic Cars" and auctioned for $61k. It has a very sad back-story though. FWIW, my car is 10x more correct. http://hotvws.com/images/Back%20Issu..._2008Cover.jpg |
actually, I have one and a half 181s. one with the tree growing thru it is complete and another with no engine/trans. I'd make someone a great deal on 2 things, 1 Ghia, 3 buggies and a truck load of engines. give me what you think they're worth to you and haul em off. hell... give me half what you think they're worth to you, buy me lunch and haul em off. it wouldn't bother me to give them away free but I know some jackwad would just haul them off, drive directly to scrap yard, sell them for scrap iron and make a few hundred on my generosity. it's happened before. I could do that myself if I wanted to. I'd much rather someone have them that might do something with them even if it's just for parts. they're really in too good of shape to just scrap. I just need to downsize my collection of vehicular yard art and automotive lawn sculptures

I bought my wife a '74 conv. for an anniversary present this year and it is a fun little car. It certainly gets lots of looks from younger folks and non-car people as they have no idea what it is. Those who do know also give it the eyeball. Pretty humorous to see it in the garage next to the SC and the 2 relatively new Foresters sitting in the drive.
But, driving it after driving the SC is like driving the SC after driving a friend's GT3 RS. It is slow!! |
