I have a groundhog living in my shop!
I thought I was loosing my mind last week, I kept hearing things in my office area. Early this week, I was sure there was some sort of critter that had moved in. I figured it was a mouse, but was unable to find any signs of it.
This morning, I could hear the thing right under my desk ( my office is built on top of an old service pit) I was looking everywhere. I finally opened up the access door that leads under my office and there he was looking right up at me. Big ole' grinny. I think there may be babies as well, as I can hear some squeaking at times. What I don't want is to poison him, or shoot him, and then have him crawl away somewhere where I will never find him and die. It is a big sucker and will stink the place up. He must have tunneled right under my foundation, I remember seeing, and filling a large hole on the outside of the bldg this summer. Any advice on how to trap him, , or flush him out so that I can whack him?

We must not have them in the South. The first one I ever saw was up in PA working last year. You might could grab the thing (with thick gloves on). One came up to me and kept hanging around. I couldn't run the thing off. Don't know if it thought I had something to eat (maybe it thought I was something to eat) or what but it seemed mighty friendly. I do know the locals hated them.

First you have to say "Hey Y'all watch dis" Then hand someone your beer, and make sure you have a camera running. This has youtube written all over it.

We have them in north Georgia.
I doubt they could survive in Florida, if they dug a hole over six inches deep they would drown in it. ![]() Last edited by willtel; 03-01-2012 at 04:47 PM.. |

Used to not be many in the south because they were considered pretty tasty and they would destroy your garden/crop. They are almost impossible to fence out of a garden as they will tunnel under. Once one was sighted where we grew our food, someone had to stay there with a .22 until it came back and was killed. I see them everywhere now when I am in the area...because few raise their own food because they can get their food for free with SNAP.
