Interesting, apparently there are theories, but nothing concrete. If you follow the Wikipedia link, I often have something like the "dog vomit" version that they have pictured. I get a weird jelly-like substance which then turns to something almost looking like a yellow "peep" that eventually gets powdery and goes away. I've always assumed it was some sort of fungus.

Perhaps this thread is just in time for Halloween.

I have found out that it is not a plant, or fungus.

Scientific theory of Star Jelly

There is a book reveal about star jelly theory. The Book of British amphibians and Reptiles, written by M Smith. He clearly explained that the Star Jelly is actually the remains of the frog oviduct. Oviduct is the reproductive tract in the frog's body that produces a jelly substance. The animal which produce the oviduct not only frog but other animal like mammals that eat the frog usually leaves the oviduct and then turned into jelly when reacting with air.

Another theory is Nostoc. This is kind of water cyanobactery. Which potential to form colonies in open areas. In ordinary conditions, this colony wouldn't be seen by humans. But when the rain falls, Nostoc colony will turned into a lump of jelly.
Get me some and I will find out what it is...

The brain of a liberal. Interesting color (Ice Mint Green) but no real substance.

I actually sent over an abstract and prospectus for a book idea on mysterious materials – natural and manmade. It was an examination on all sorts of weird stuff like
- perovskite-related oxides
- desert glass
- equilibrium gels
- auxetics
- graphemes
- mechanophores
- nanotubes
- metallic glass
- nanofoam
- liquid metal
- aero gels

The publisher gave me the go ahead but I haven't done much with it yet. I still may do it. It would be a blast to research and write about...

Seriously? I was thinking in terms of a coffee table book as opposed to a material science book? Thoughts

I'm guessing that was found on the floor of N!'s shower after a hard night of partying.
