In Tokyo-any must see stuff?

I looked up Rau-Welt, they might be a bit far just to look in. How about other stuff, kart tracks, etc?

There are nice dealers such as Prestige Porsche, Code 9, Diane etc. I dont think there are any races this weekend. Need to check out idlers for the schedule. There may be some street racing on Wangan at midnight, but most have been shutdown. Apart from that, I recommend just walking around Shibuya and Aoyama looking at the fab cars rolling. Depends on how long you are in town for.

-Have a walk in Ginza and have your camera handy.

-I highly recommend stopping at the New York Bar at the Park Hyatt for a drink in the evening. It's not cheap, but the view is just amazing and the jazz music is great. Its the bar featured in the Bill Murray movie Lost in Translation. Dress nice (pants and shirt) or they won't let you in... although they do offer free lender pants they aren't always the best fit. (which I had to use because I stopped by in shorts... yeah I know... but having pants that are 10 inches short from normal is always a good laugh).

-Shopping in Shibuya can be fun too if the clothing fits

-The fish market was awesome, but I'm not sure if it's still opened for the public.

-Tokyo Disney, nuff said.

-Super Autobacs store... wish we had them here (isn't there one in LA?)

-Akihabara is okay if you love computers/games.

-Have a beer in public it's legal... just get one from a vending machine. Kirin, Asahi, Saporo, Orion...mmmmmmMmm

-If you have the time, head to Daikoku Futo in Yokohama port. Search for this on the interweb and you'll know why.

I could go on and on... had my honeymoon in Japan for three weeks last summer. Wish I'd go back soon!!!

Have fun!!

I had the good fortune to stay at the Park Hyatt in 2004 on business. The schedule was so jammed I almost didn't have time to go to the hotel bar, NY Bar. The fact that they even have "Loner Pants" cracks me up. I love Japan! Content: All the newer Porsche's I saw were driven by women looking like they were on the way to the amazing stores of Shibuya. By all means go there and check out the Renzo Piano building, The Prada store by Herzog / De Meuron, Comme des Garcons etc. etc and all the wacky architecture. It is really a world class destination type of thing for anyone with the remotest interest in bespoke mini skyscrapers.

Also the department store "Tokyo Hands" is a nice way to kill time. They have the most amazing and efficient selection of metric nuts and bolts you could ever desire, in a very small space. Makes you realize what a bad excuse for hardware store Home Depot is ( & we all suffer for it.) I always buy tools there, they have great well-made tools, anything made in Japan is usually pretty good quality, weird pliers I have never seen before etc. Nice saws of course. which make great gifts for any wood worker pals you might have. Not cheap, but good.

Enjoy.

Like KeoRS suggested, definitely the New York bar at Shinjuku Park Hyatt. Order Yamazaki 18 and enjoy the view

Tokyo Tower in Roppongi. The Sky Tree is still not open yet I think.

If you have time for a day trip, go to Kamakura. Its about 60 min by train if I remember correctly. A little past Yokohama. It will be beautiful this time of year with the leaves changing colours. Lots of temples and a view of the ocean from the hill tops.

Try to find Harajuku Gyoza. Its off of Omotesando near the Bvlgari and Maison Martin Margiela stores. It will have a line up probanly but the gyoza are delicious and cheap. I also suggest the moyashi bowl.

Tokyo is one of the greatest cities in the world, enjoy your stay

Yes to the Ginza and fish market. Yokohama is nice too. Kamakura is beautiful and walkable through the town/great Buddha.

If you have a little extra time, try dinner at Ukai Toriyama in the western hills. ukai toriyama(ã†ã‹ã„鳥山)

Or down to Kyoto....

Thanks for all the replies. I'm at the Lotte City Hotel which I guess is greater Tokyo. Right next to a train station, so easy to get around. I have all of Saturday, not leaving until late Sunday. Traveling with wife, so need to keep it 'clean'-meaning not too loud or greasy!

We may go to central Tokyo just to see what it is like.

Thanks

Can't give enough +1s to this suggestion. Get up early - 4:30 AM would be a good time to set your alarm for - and hoof it on over to the fish market. Walk through the market and be astonished. Then find a little sushi bar nearby and have the freshest seafood you've ever eaten for breakfast.

Kamakura is a great suggestion too, if you have the better part of the day - the train ride over is nice and easy, and the town is very walkable.

For dinner, ask the concierge at your hotel to recommend a good roboto style restaurant (country style). There are a number of small hidden gems of restaurants throughout the city.

Meiji-Jingu - To experience such a place of peace and tranquility in the middle of such a dense urban area is breathtaking to me. And it's served by the Harajuku station so you can get a nice dose of Japan weird stuff.

+1 on Kamakura if you have an extra day.

I also love the Tsukji fish market, it's like being in the middle of a live video game. Must have been the inspiration for Mario bros.

Pouring rain all day today. Took the train to Tokyo station, Hit the Tokyo Hands store and a few others that were close by. Picked up some small gifts for family and a new computer bag for me. Hoping for better weather tomorrow. Thanks for the input...

Depending on how long you are in town for. Next week I plan to visit my local Porsche shop, and visit Promodet. Or I can just take you for a ride. LMK
