Macbook pro fan control
Any of you MBP users have any sort of fan control software? I had a conversation with someone about one, and now can't remember who the hell it was...

Why do you need fan control software?

Sorry, not familiar with it. I have a base with a fan in it that I use when I'm doing graphics or watching videos. It's USB powered.

I'll look into those SM. Whoever I was discussing this with said theirs didn't get as hot all the time. Just would be nice if my laptop didn't get nuclear when I am watching a video, etc...

I've seen the cool pads but thats something else to drag around with my laptop. I downloaded SMC just now, and I've watched the temp tumble down in the last few minutes.

I've got to ask.....is your laptop sitting on a pillow/blanket when you are watching video?

Mine gets to sun-surface temps as well. I use a cool pad but I'm stoked to see if this software works thanks.

So, you want to turn your fan down so that your CPU over heats and eventually dies?
That sounds like an awesome plan. I too have MBP and when I'm hitting the CPU hard the fan goes up. I use an app to monitor it and I can usually keep things normal by making sure my utilization is normal. Normally though it is a stray process that is causing the high CPU. The fan monitoring app provides me with a bit more information that just simply the sound of the fan. Check your activity monitor to see why the fan is spinning up while you're watching a DVD. It's usually related to a process that is hitting the CPU hard. IF it isn't the DVD and it is something else - troubleshoot that.

Quite the opposite mike... I want to ramp up the idle speed of the fan, so the damn thing isn't as hot all the time...

You could get one of those cooled lap-desks.

I have a MacBook Pro, 13.3 screen. I wasn't aware that this thing had a fan at all- It is silent, never gets hot.
-My old Sony Vaio on the other hand could heat the room and really wasn't stage-3 compliant! N |

Since installing the software this morning my temp has gone down from 126 F to 109 avg. That's with 4000 RPM's. I'll take it. You could fry an egg on the bottom of my MBP. Now there's only one hot bottom in the house and that's my wife's.

SMC Fan Control is where its at. Good simple program you can control from the top menu bar. Great for when its getting hot but wont kick the fans up. Make custom settings for 3000rpm, 4000rpm, 5000rpm.

Yup, I'm using SMC now and have noticed it running cooler. I'll play with it a bit and get it optimized.
