Today's garage sale find: Anyone know values on retro (1960s) furniture?

Trying to figure out what I bought this morning.

![]() There are two chairs, an ottoman, and two tables. Labels on the chairs say "Frank & Sons, Park Ave. NY", with a manufacture date of July 1968. Any idea what they're worth? Ottoman is split between the buttons. Chairs are in excellent condition. One has a small tear on the arm rest, but I have two replacements. ![]() ![]()

There's a local warehouse (unmarked--you have to know it's there) that sells that kind of mid-century modern furniture. Mostly Danish and English. They purchase estate sale type stuff and then refurbish it. A pair of those reconditioned chairs (good leather, good cushioning) would go for $1500-2000, easily.

I guess it kinda depends on Frank & Sons.. did they ever make a name with own design, or did they just make chairs based on the designs of the time?

We used to live in Palm Springs and there are lots of "mid century" houses being remodeled back to original. They pay BIG bucks to furnish the houses with period correct things like this. BIG bucks!

Those will bring some good money, but as mentioned, they need to be pristine. A set is always better than one of a kind.

Mid century stuff by Euro designers and Italian manufacturer can be gold. In this county it was Eames. And it was all designed way before it became popular. |

I agree with Noah930, $1500-2000, and perhaps a lot more. You need to sell them in the right market. Perhaps put them on consignment at a shop in LA?

While it's very cool, I am not sure it will bring those high ($1500+) numbers. A lot depends on the maker and the quality of the build. How good is the leather, the steel, the chrome, the welds, the overall construction?

The design is nondescript, and doesn't seem to be from one of the era's leading designers like Eames, Nelson, Bertoia, Cherner, Panton, etc.. If the pieces are nearly perfect or restored, with good quality materials/construction, then I think the previous estimates are pretty good, but you'll need to get them in front of the right kind of buyers. Regardless, this is a really nice score. How much did you pay?

Material is vinyl. The chairs and tables are in extremely nice shape with no significant flaws at all. The ottoman does show a little wear with splits between the buttons. They're not very obvious since they follow the creases.

The lounge chairs look fairly comfortable, the not too high back makes them suited for two channel stereo listening. In my opinion these chairs are not going to fetch top dollar, but can be enjoyed and used. Enjoy them, they are very cool.

My parents collect Haywood Wakefield modern from the 50s. They live in Michigan, and occasionally get crazy scores at yard sales. They picked up a flawless vanity with original mirror intact, $80! It would would bring $600-800 easily. More at the right shop in LA/Seattle.

I have a friend in Australia who seems to be doing really well selling mid century Danish furniture, so as everyone is saying, if it's the right designer, it can be big bucks.
