On the news now a woman pepper-sprays a crowd of people at a Walmart so that she could get the deal ahead of the others.
I'd say unbelievable but these days it's not unfortunately

This brought a smile to my face, jewelry counter at Walmart. Now that is an oxymoron.

Police arrested a man in Kissimmee, Florida, on a resisting arrest charge after they wrestled him to the ground to stop a fight at a jewelry counter at Walmart about 1 a.m., CNN affiliate Central Florida News 13 reported.

I wasn't around 50 years ago but I believe the commercialism of the season has made this time of year dreadful for a lot of folks instead of being a joyous time.

I don't recall my folks EVER going out shopping in a frenzy to find the latest, greatest, "whatever".

We had 6 kids and my Mom stayed home so we didn't have alot. Of course, the tech toys weren't invented yet so that is a major difference.

I did go out last night to the local Fry's at about 11:30pm to get in the line. I wasted about an hour and a half of my life (after an hour I did look at my watch and say to myself 'well, I don't get that hour back').

I was after one thing - a cheap laptop for my mother in law.

I didn't get it.

Fry's is like the only place I would try to do this at I think. It was a bit crazy but not over the top. I waited a bit in line but only about 20 minutes. Then I got in the store and had to figure out what to do to get what I wanted. That was where I lost it - if I had known what to do (get in the laptop line) I probably would have gotten one (it was a $178 15.6" with a neat AMD processor I'm interested in).

Maybe next year - maybe not. I left when I didn't get the laptop - I didn't really look into anything else. They had monitors and cameras and laptops and tablets - I'm sure I could have gotten a good deal on something. Wife does want a new flatscreen TV. She asked me yesterday why we didn't have one while we were watching the game on a friends (We have a nice enough DLP so no big driver to get one really) and I told her 'you just have to say go spend the money and we'll get one' and she didn't so we don't.

She's looking forward to hanging it on the wall.

I'm not going to say I won't do it again but I think it would ONLY be at a Fry's and not like a Walmart or Best Buy (which I don't even shop at normally).
