My 08 truck has been hit 7 times since I got it in Sept of 08. Every time it was parked. Only once did someone do the right thing and leave a note. First hit was two weeks after I bought it. Two kids backed into it in a parking lot. A woman saw the hit and them taking off. She got their plate # and hung around till I came out of the store. $900 damage. A week after it was fixed someone hit the same corner again and broke the tail light.

Well I took it to a dent removal dude recommended by the local P-car club, gotta say he worked a miracle! It was big ding, about the size of a quarter and distorted the metal radiating out to the size of a tennis ball. Now you can't see it, I'm quite amazed... $275 well spent.

I had a buddy, let's call her Kelly, who had a long bed crew cab dually chevy. It was a real beater that she used mainly for towing her horse trailer, picking up feed, etc. This truck took up alot of parking lot real estate...

She went to the feed store, and on the way back, stopped at a Target store. Bearing in mind that her truck is beastly large, she parked as far from the door as possible, clear out by a dumpster. There were probably more than a 100 parking places closer but this one was easy to get in/out of with the long wheel base, extra wide truck and didn't intrude on any one else's parking place.

When she came back out, two cars were parked by her truck. One on each side, one facing the front, one backed in. They had parked so deliberately close that the corners of their bumpers were nearly touching the dual fenders and there was no way for Kelly to open either door to per pickup truck. They must have thought they were just hilarious. Kelly climbed into her pickup through the rear sliding window. Fumed a bit... Then did this (remember - beater truck)...

She unlatched the front door, layed on the seat and stomped repeatedly on the inside door panel to pile drive the outside of the door into the offending car. Then she repeated the exercise on the other car. Fired up the truck and left.

I always think about that when I park my car someone. I try to be respectful of other people's space. Yeah, I know, others people don't - but every now and then, one of those rude poopy-heads really does get what they deserve.

Oh, did I mention Kelly is a redhead?

A good summary justice story

I'll point out that I always leave room! In fact, I'm not embarrassed to take "one or two bites" at positioning my car well inside a parking space to be sure I'm not encroaching on someone else's space...

Sorry to hear about your debacle John...it is certainly makes me angry...I understand sh&t happens but I don't understand how people can be so clueless then act as if nothing has happened. I certainly have had my share of dings.

What I want to know is why my once pristine S2000 now has door dings on both sides and my dirty old 4x4 truck has no door dings?

Good thing I too am mellowing with age...ha ha. I used to be the guy that would chase after asshats who crossed me...It took a while to deprogram my aggresive military training

There's very little respect around for other people either.

The name Kelly suggests she is of Irish decent; that makes her half crazy, being a redhead makes her even more crazy, no disrepect to you our favorite woman here Angela, but being a woman makes her even more crazy LOL.

Yeah I took some time to deprogram after leaving police work... I enjoyed the chase; and nothing beats giving people some time to reflect over their stupidity whilst wearing a pair of cro-mo bracelets

About 8 years ago I am paired with a sales guy (i am an engineer). We went to a customer to do a a presentation, which went well.

After that we went to get some dinner. We pull up to a restaurant in our rental car. As a car guy, and responsible human, I always take care when opening my door.

The slimy, well to do, sales guy however does not. He opened his door into a gorgeous old mustang. Obviously this car was the guys baby, it was immaculate and look flawless.

So, the sales guy looks and me and says, "What do you think?"

I told him to leave a note and have them contact you. It was a rental car, and it was paid for by the company...so we have coverage...NO cost to him.

He says, screw that...too much paperwork and moved his car 2 spots over.

I looked for someone with Mustang clothing, or anything as a clue..but nothing. We had our entire meal and the guy never came out.

I asked him 3 or 4 times to leave a note and he just got irate.

There was no mark on our car, so I couldn't tell the rental agency because there was nothing to show them.

Fast forward a few months and I see his car...covered in scratches and dents. I asked him if he was going to get it fixed. He said, its a lease...I will trade it in on a snowy day when its covered in slush and dirt and let them be surprised....

This guy has an advanced degree, was very successful and had a family. What lessons is he passing on....

I take it you're not too high on "sales guys" but of course that has nothing (NAFT) to do with your story. I made my living in sales and there many honorable people in the element of business. I know some engineers that are real scumbags, fortunately not too many.

Your friend was and is an arsehole but it had nothing to do with sales as his profession.

Actually, I don't have a problem with sales people. My wife is a sales person in the same industry. My current sales guy is a great guy.

It was this guy. My point was that he was well to do, it was a rental and would have cost him nothing, and even with his own car, he wanted to screw the dealership.

Some people, regardless of what they have, what their status is and how they present themselves, are garbage.

That dude was garbage.

I was couldn't imagine how devastated that mustang owner was going to be........

Odd, I was denigrating all sales people, just him....are sales guys that sensitive?

Not sensitive, just observant and a little anal, thanks for the clarification. My response was more tongue in cheek than anything.

Definitely a problem. My wife and son think I'm crazy because I park far away from everyone just to avoid dents and dings. Doesn't always work like someone mentioned it's like a magnet for *******s to park next to you.

Another problem that contributes to the issue is the growing size of american asses. The fatter you are, the more you need to swing your door fully open. The fatter you are, usually, the larger the car you drive. I've watched whole families of fat asses exit their big cars with doors fully open. Not a pretty sight.
